Will the E46 M3 Section 1 CAT Pipe fit our Z4M's?

Figured I'll make my own thread,

Will the CAT pipe from a E46 M3 fit our cars?
It looks to be the same size and shape, But just want to get conformation before I buy one,

This is what it looks like on the M3

Don't think the rear flanges have the same orientation:

Yeah, I guess - not much room back there but you are probably a good welder. Curious why you are looking at the M3 sect1? Just kind of a weird request - most of the time you hear people trying to get rid of cats of figure a way to install high flow pieces.

I'm looking to fit euro cats and euro headers,

The euro cats are the bottom ones pictured in the M3 image, and the euro cats come pre made with o2 bung holes in the correct place and an EGR bung already to go,
With these cats I'm hoping to keep the DME happy and not throw a CEL by placing the after cat o2's behind the euro cats,

The flanges will match, but the pipe is totally different. If you have a friend with an E46 M3 you can crawl under and measure it- visible difference when looked at closely. I'll see if I can find the thread where it has come up before.

Why not get the euro section 1 for the Z4M?

Because trying to find one is very difficult,

Euro M3 pipes come up all the time,

Oh well, idea gone

If you are worried about not keeping your section 1 stock you could find another at a recycler to modify with O2 bungs and an EGT bung like pal and some others have done.....although if you wanted to return to stock you could just cap off the installed bungs.

With the rarity of Euro Z4M parts that looks to be my option,

Now just the hunt for headers and I'm golden,

Yup all signs point to YES!
a seller who mostly posts on M3 boards has found me one in Germany (hes over there right now)
He has an excellent selling track history and has hooked me up with a Z4M Euro Cat pipe!
Very happy

I would assume the Z4M Euro cat pipe is the same as ours as far as cat cell count?
I think ours is 400? Or could we be in for a treat like the Euro M3's and these would be fitted with 200 cell count cats?

That's great, I'm not sure you even need to get reflashed with this since you will be relocating the O2 sensors.

Bill,

From what Pal was telling me (who did the same setup but just modified his US cat pipe to the Euro spec by welding in the bungs) you don't need a re-flash,

I did read Roman saying that you would benifit from having the Euro Z4M tune loaded onto the DME as the US one's fuel parameters are different due to the Cats in the headers,
So with this setup, I will be going with Euro headers and Euro cats, Essentially mimicing the Euro Z4M's exhaust setup, I have the ESS tune anyway on my car but I'd like to see if getting the Euro tune loaded would help the car some more,
So this is something I can PM Roman about (or he can post here)

Will do,
Figure a couple of weeks for the parts to get to me,
I'll try to get some pics too of the install and what to look out for,

Fantastic!!
Can't wait to follow your results with this.
I've thought about this a couple of times.
This exactly the way I would go, if I was to do it.

Well this way I maintain all OEM parts and fit and finish,

I shouldn't see any problem, after all this is what Pal did with his US pipe,
Not that I don't trust my welding skills, I've been fabbing things for years, but I'd rather not have to cut my stock pipe,
This way I don't need to and it still will look OEM,

I would like to know the cell count for the Euro cats out of curiosity, I'm sure Ron would know, (or have a way of finding out lol)
I'll get some pics of the pipe I'm getting once the seller emails me them

Awesome! Just finalized the deal for Euro Headers too Turned out to be a good 24 hours,
Should have everything by the end of the month,
Looking forward to this!

Plus according to Pal you don't need to extend the o2 sensor wires or the EGT wires,
You can unclip them from their current loom and they will fit the relocated ports,
(I will confirm this when I install mine)

Can you confirm that you DON'T need to extend the o2 and EGT wires?

Or if you need to do you remember where you bought the plugs and kit?
