Noob

Thought I should say hi. Signed up about a week ago

I actually don't have a Z but a e46 M3. My other half is picking up a imola red z4m coupe in January, so I thought I should get on the forums and see what works and doesn't work on the Z cars. I do all my own work on cars hence doing the research on here.

Been looking into suspension, will most likely go with KW's. Been running the V3's on the e46 and I can't fault them for road/track/nurburgring use

Anyway I'll stop rambling and leave a few e46 pics, firstly with road wheels then my track/roadtrip wheels

Wow!

Nice cars you two!

Thing about the Z4M is that it's largely an E36M3 front suspension with an E46M3 rear suspension. For example, you can use an E36 shim kit to get more negative camber in front (up to ~-2.5) instead of camber plates. There's a little bit more to it than that (E46M3 sway bars will work in most cases) but it's a good place to start from. Plenty of threads on this and I linked to a recent one on suspension travel and etc.

Engine is the same as the E46M3 but it has a different ECU and hence different tuning needs. Brakes are essentially those from the E46 M3 competition package. Steering rack has a tighter ratio than the E46 M3 and is much sought after!

Looks like you're in for some good fun!

Cheers for the info. Do you have any more detail on this shim kit to gain camber? I know I can remove the camber pins aswell

Thanks guys

Ok looking at the shim kit it looks like it is used for positve camber rather than negative?

Edit worked it out now. It is for neg gain which is exactly what I'm looking for, I very cheap fix if I do say so

Sure! Here's a thread, with a link to a supplier in the first post. At just under 15 dollars these are quite a bargain compared to plates! (And still useful with plates if you want extreme Rcomp level camber settings.)

Removing the pins will yield -1 to -1.5. Results seem to vary. Here is some discussion of various alignment settings and tricks with the washers/shims.

There are pluses and minuses associated with having likewise minded partner. Pluses are that you don't get much grief about mods or costs, plus your share a passion. Minus is that your mod affliction and expensive hobby just doubled (if you're lucky) in price.

On the whole I'll go with a shared passion--it's been good for us in our case. For our tenth anniversary (tin) we gave ourselves a joint project/track car. Crazy? Perhaps.

It's been good for me. My wife and I even work together at forge. She's into it in a big way, drives hard and probably goes through consumables even faster than I do. Luckily her current gti is less expensive than my m to run.
