Stromung Exhaust Installation * Install Advice *

I'm going to be installing Stromung cans later this week on my Z4 MC and from what I've read it looks pretty straight forward. My only question is, based your experience do you remove the rear diffuser panel? I've read that it can be done either way.

One install says that the nuts that secure the exhaust hanger brackets are welded and I see another with the hangers removed. It appears that if the hangers can be removed you wouldn't need to remove the diffuser

I would really appreciate any advice or recommendations. I also should mention that I purchased the Stromung's second hand so I don't have any instructions.

Thanks,
Greg

Here are a few of installs that I'm using as a reference.

My nuts are not welded, but my equipment was not stock at purchase, so YMMV. I don't remove anything but the mufflers when swapping mufflers, and I don't think you will need to, but I'm sure someone more savvy will say for sure.

I've done mufflers a few times on this car. It allows for much easier access if you remove that plastic diffuser, especially if you have to remove the stock cans

If it is your first go around remove the diffuser - not hard at all. The install does not take very long once the HEAVY stock mufflers are out, I recommend using jacks to help there.

Got it.. The diffuser is coming off.. Thanks guys..

One more question, is it better to remove the hanger brackets or just remove the 13mm bolts that attach the muffler to the hanger?

Diffuser is 2min to remove and makes the job easier.

I have lost count of the number of times I've done exhaust re&re;
removing rear cans with hangers is the easiest way to do it.

So the install went well but it did take quite a few fine adjustments to get them just right. Although the drivers side does seem to stick out approximately a 1/4" more than the passenger side. I can't figure out of there is an adjustment for that.

While I was under the car I did find this..... The bolts for the passengers side rear sway bar were gone and the drivers side was hanging by a thread!

That's a common issue. I had put a marker on those bolts and tried to take a peek at them every chance I get. They're still OK thus far on mine

I ran a few searches and found a few examples. I just ran down to lowes and bought a couple M8 stainless steel bolts and some threadlock. They were a little longer but there is plenty of clearance, hopefully they hold up.

Ask and you shall receive

As far as the sound goes, I really like it. To me its like the original exhaust just with a deeper sound. Not too loud, just enough so you know its there.

Going from a 2.5" to a 3" does make a nice noticeable difference.
Looking good 😎

You can solve for the excess length on one side by loosening the bumper cover retaining screws and adjusting the fit appropriately - there should be sufficient play in the screw holes to compensate.

Scott does great work. I love the sound they produce, so much so I have the Stromung exhaust on both roadsters
