Whistler radar/laser hardwire

I installed the Whislter Pro in my M coupe and didn't want it really obvious to anyone looking at or in the car. I placed the radar detector and the temperature probe behind the grill in the front and as we all know radar is not blocked by the plastic so goes right through the grill. Unless you get down and look carefully you can't really see it.Name: Untitled-1.jpg

Using wiring directions from the forum I wired the reciever into the green/white behind the dome light and cut the area between there and the sunglass holder to mount the unit.Name: Untitled-9.jpg

The laser detector has to see front and rear so it is up by the mirror and if and when asked I say it is a light sensor to dim my headlights.

Works very well and as they are illegal where I am the fact that it can detect radar detector detector signals and shuts down helps a lot !

The BEL Sti-Stealth is completely obscure to ALL radar detector detectors. Even from three feet away from the Specter IV radar detector detector.

RD's are also illegal to operate in my state. Not to own but to operate.

Nice integration. I hate that crap when they say legal to own but not operate... that is baloney.

I got pulled over from laser 2 weeks ago, as soon as my V1 went off I knew I was screwed but nothing I could do about it. Not going to spring for a laser jammer cause then they would just think of another reason to pull me over.

From that experience (mine is windshield mounted to the top left of the mirror and hard wired as well) the cop did not even notice that I had a radar detector. I left it up the entire time and unless they get down on a knee and look up (very unlikely) they probably will not see it. Thankfully I only got wrote up for 10 over which is not considered a moving violation here in Iowa and thus does not affect my insurance!

DIY

I could outline it I suppose but I don't wan't to take it all apart to show the inside, The sunglass holder and the dome light assembly come out and you can see the space available between them. The template for the cut out comes with the detector and all I did was make an incision in the fabric of the headliner shaped like >-< and peeled back the cloth. Then you cut the cardboard head liner in the oval shape and fold the cloth back in to the cut. If you decide to remove the detector you can fill in the cardboard from the back and fold the cloth back out and glue it in place. If cut with a sharp blade the only thing you would see is a line.

The wiring is in other posts, positive wire green/white off with ignition, ground to one of the holes under the headliner - outputs from detector behind grillls and temperature probe threaded through firewall and up A piller to over headliner.
