Oil Service Due in 9000 miles (perhaps 5000, hard to tell from your picture)
Look at page 49 of your owners manual. http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Conte...modelcode=0428 It should not remain illuminated for more than a few seconds after startup though, and the presence of numerous other idiot lights in your picture points towards a picture snapped right at startup. Does the indication indeed go away after a few seconds? Service interval display Remaining distance to next service The displays shown in the illustration appear for a few seconds when the ignition key is in position 1 or after the engine is started. The next service due appears with the message OIL SERVICE or INSPECTION, together with the distance remaining in miles – in kilometers in Canada – before the next scheduled service. The computer bases its calculations of the remaining distance on the preceding driving style. A flashing message and a minus sign in front of the number mean that the service interval has already been exceeded by the distance shown on the display. Please contact your BMW center for an appointment.

A reminder clock symbol.....
(From the Owner's Manual)
Service Interval Display The remaining driving distance in miles/km until the next scheduled service is displayed briefly immediately after you start the engine or switch on the ignition. The words OILSERVICE or INSPECTION indicate the type of service due next. The computer bases its calculations of the remaining driving distance on the preceding driving style. A flashing message and a minus sign in front of the number mean that the service interval has already been exceeded by the number of miles/ kilometers shown on the display. Please schedule an appointment with your BMW center or a workshop that works according to BMW repair procedures with correspondingly trained personnel. thanks guys, but the inspection/oil service display always appears briefly after turning on the ignition, like all the other lights, except for the little box inside the circle in my picture. that is something i have never seen before. i asked a couple of guys and they said it has to do with the brake line fluid?! not sure if that's accurate.
and i still have around 5800km till my next service! |
