When I was shopping for my car my buddy persuaded me to get the 335i(he has the jb3...400hp)So I figured I wanted something more nimble and thought the 135i fit the bill...until I spotted the M roadster, which never crossed my mind, in the corner of the lot. drove both back 2 back and needless to say the 135i was "just" another well rounded versatile BMW, and the M was everything a weekend car could be. There really is nothing like driving an M as you should know. The 1m would be a different story though Get what fits your bill b/c you can't go wrong!!
btw the 1 series and m coupes are going for roughly the same price if not the 1 is cheaper currently!!

Yes, the 2001-2002 Z3Ms use the S54, but there were fewer than 700 sold here, so they're harder to find in good condition, and often asking prices are similar to the Z4M for a low mileage example.

I have a 2009 135i (for the wife) and a 2006 M roadster.
They are completely different cars. The 135i is surprisingly quiet on the road. It handles very well and provides a surprising amount of acceleration, but I prefer the roadster. My wife doesn't like the roadster as much as the 135i and her previous car was a 2006 3.0i roadster, which she loved. I prefer my M, but the 135i is a nice car. |

I just recently turned in my 135 for last 2008 M Roadster
Me lease was ending on my BMw 135 and I really enjoyed the car very much. But I needed something more edgier and at first I had placed an order for the new 2009 BMW Z4Sdrive35, but after test driving the dual clutch auto, it felt too much like my 135 except heavier and kind of lagged for me. Then the dealership had a certified pre-owned M roadster that my salesman wanted me to compare and I immediately fell in love with the M rather than the new body style Z4 (turbo). The steering on the M car is so precise and it is so much fun to and easy to get the back end loose when you turn off traction control and drift around the corners. I cancelled and had my name taken off the new Sdrive35 Z4 and decided to buy the last 2008 M roadster at a dealer in SoCal last weekend with no regrets. I turned in my 135 which is also a great car with creature comforts, but I needed a change and wanted something edgier and with raw power. You can drive it hard and have fun or drive it normal around town and feels mediocre. I can't wait until I rech 1200 miles break-in so I can drive it the way it is meant to be. I got $16k off the MSRP since it was their last 2008.
Let us know what you decide on.

The Z4M is pretty good for a front-engined car; I find I can place the car pretty accurately at all speeds. Nowadays, though, if you're not doing it like Porsche, you're not doing it right. |

I haven't driven the 135i but the one thing that hinders "me" from purchasing it is that it doesn't have a LSD diff.
When i purchased my M was for DD and for occasional track days if my track car ever met its fate with a tire wall. Does both just fine. |
