*ALL* Parts Needed to Convert US E85 Z4M Header Setup to Euro Z4M CSL Header Setup?

Hello All,

I'm in the US and recently bought a 2007 Z4M Roadster and I want to put the CSL headers from the Euro-spec Z4M.

I've already read this old but succinct thread summarizing the various types of headers.

I have access to new CSL headers i.e. the highly sought-after lighter ones. The part numbers are 11627833500 and 11627833501 for a LHD car.

I wanted to start this thread to ask - what are all the OTHER PARTS/NUMBERS I'd need?

I want a plug-and-play setup, no soldering. I know there are some wires/sensors I need to move from where they are in a US-spec car to where they'd have to go using CSL headers, but I'd rather buy the corresponding Euro-spec part than "frankenstein" an existing part to save money.

Are the O2 sensors that needs re-routing the equivalent of the "BOSCH Oxygen Sensors" on the Euro-spec models, with part numbers 11787837564 and 11787837565? Meaning, can I buy these two to prevent having to cut/solder etc. anything?

What other parts do you recommend?

And last question - if I replace the headers and install the O2 sensors correctly, will my engine/ECU need any re-programming?

Thanks in advance

You'll need an OEM european section 1 BMW PN 18307836633 for the cleanest install. Stock USA 02 sensors can be used by moving their routing from the passenger to driver side of the engine bay to reach the rearmost 02 location. There is no splicing required, a few zip ties etc. I completed this install with CSL headers in 2019, zero CEL or issues since. 10K miles and a number of track days

Great, I'll read through that thread.

So it sounds like you're saying, all I need are the 1-3 and 4-6 CSL headers (part numbers 11627833500 and 11627833501) and the OEM euro Section 1 (part number 18307836633) and the rest is plug-and-play?

I was just curious if I needed any other bits and bobs like all the bolts, gaskets etc. those are all the same for the N. American and Euro models so I can just buy them at the dealership or at Turner Motorsport if I need them.

I assume the temperature sensor (no. 8 in the below diagram) from my car will also work with the Euro Section 1? because the Euro part is 11787834704but the N. American part is 11787831624

one more question: do I need to re-tune/re-program anything? I think I will NOT need to with the O2 sensors placed where they should be downstream of the Section 1 cat. That's also what this post says in the thread that you cited.

The CSL headers are the same as the Euro Z4M headers. Don't pay a premium for "CSL" headers. The standard E46 M3 Euro headers were slightly different (thicker/heavier), but the Z4M and CSL headers are identical.

You do not NEED a tune in the sense that you won't get a check engine light, but performance will not be what it could be without a tune. The fueling modifiers are different between Euro and US software versions, as is the ignition timing maps and a host of other things. You could use WinKFP to upload Euro software, but you will need to revert back to US software if you ever want to pass emissions. The Euro software does not run the same OBD tests, and things like the DMTL will show as "not present".

Great information pokeybritches . I have not tuned my setup because I am holding out for a CSL intake setup eventually, there are still gains on the butt dyno (and noise!) without it.

In terms of parts, yes I would recommend replacing bolts, nuts, clips, gaskets etc while you are in there. A few PNs from my FCPEuro order at the time

BMW Clip BMW-12521437136 (02 sensor routing)
BMW Hex Bolt BMW-07119902901
BMW Hex Nut BMW-11621744323
BMW Exhaust Flange Nut - Genuine BMW 18301317898
BMW Exhaust Flange Gasket BMW-18307830674
BMW Exhaust Seal Ring BMW-11627830668
LM 508 Anti-Seize Compound Liqui Moly LM2012

Confirm quantities with this diagram for the catalytic converter https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=18_0658

This diagram for the exhaust manifolds https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=18_0657

I did not replace the 02 or temperature sensors at the time since mine were all functional, I probably should have given age and accessibility.

right, understood. i was aware of this; the part numbers I listed are from the Euro Z4M.

I'm glad you explained this. I have more mods planned besides just the Euro Z4M headers/Sec 1 cats - namely a CSL airbox and Dinan throttle boddies. so I would want the best tune for THAT finished setup. But I fear that that's such a "whole 'nother can of worms" that I will start in its own thread when the time comes.

In the meantime sounds like I can run w/o a specific tune for the Euro Z4M headers/Sec1 cats and gain some good performance for the time being.

Actually post 2003 standard euro E46M3 headers are the same as CSL ones as well as Z4M, all identical. They can be had for $200 or less in the uk.
