They don't. Completely different price range and intended usage.

MCS 2-way are in the $6400 range for just the shocks. As race products they are meant to be rebuilt and are not intended for street use.

If you want Ohlins to compare to those, you need one of their racing products.

so i don't want to start a thread just for this...so i'll post it here as it's sorrrrrt of related. can't wait to get into a proper track suspension set up.

i'm learning to drive the piss out of the oem one. this is just one of my laps i'm posting because it was fun trying to catch the instructor 944turbo (seriously worked ~350whp). next time i'm there i'm going to keep it in 4th through turn 3 and 4...and then down to 3rd through the carousel. i probably lost some speed overshifting there. anyways, i'm excited about some ohlins.

^ Suspension + Tires = more speed thru turns = less shifting

Got another update today.

So Ohlins is finishing up their race season. In about one month we'll get back in touch with them and they'll start designing our system. At this point we'll do all the measurement, design, etc. to make sure everything is perfect. Once the design is nailed down we'll begin taking deposits for the production run.

There will be a few months between deposit and delivery. Remember we're getting a brand new kit designed specifically for us, so Ohlins to hammer out all the production and manufacturing issues, hence the long lead time.

So we're still looking at 4-6 months from now. But we now have a solid plan. Additionally we're going to get a break on the price for being part of the initial run.

They are considering making this an official kit. Just remember that we are going to get the best price by far because of the group buy + initial run discount + bundling (rsms/plates/springs). So our savings are going to be very significant, and it's not set in stone that they will make it an official kit so this may still be your only chance.

I really dig the deposit + delivery. It's like a built-in installment plan.

Fantastic Beta!!
I'd rather wait a few months and have a damper specific to our car; great work!

thanks again for the updates beta. looks like i have to go back and read through this thread to get the kit specifics.

but in the event these questions weren't answered (probably were), will we have the option of getting a stiffer more track oriented spring rate? i'm running front an rear aero so i've been told that a stiffer spring is something that i'd want to look into.

as far as payment, i guess deposit is just some bit of money down and then payment in full due before shipping?

No problem.

You will be able to get stiffer springs. I'll make sure to get exact numbers from Ohlins, but for other R&T setups they've said that 30% stiffer springs could be run without having to re-valve.

Deposit will probably be around 50% up front, with the remainder due once the full kits are assembled and ready to go.

Also is it possible to get a true real coil over option as well? I have a full FIA cage so it wouldn't be a problem running it and if anything it would handle better for my application, obviously i we need a Clovis pin and a few other minor things as well. just curious, thanks for doing all this hard work Beta! ps. any warranty such as KW offers lifetime on there v2 and v3?

Not possible, at least not for this group buy. The front is a true coilover, but a rear coilover is not possible on the Z4 by default because there isn't enough reinforcement. You could of course do it on your own as a custom build, see this thread for some discussion on the topic and an example of a race car with true coilover rears.

The warranty will be their standard 2 year warranty. However I wouldn't put too much into that because it's marketing speak. The warranty only covers manufacturers defects (which means it doesn't cover accidents, if you break it, bad installation or wear and tear). And "lifetime" means "lifetime of the product" which is typically 5 years for most products.

If within 2 years the thing hasn't failed, I'm pretty sure you're not going to find manufacturers defects at that point.

Awesome, thanks for all the detailed info, i figured i'd have to go the custom route if i wanted a true rear coil-over. I'm gonna start socking money away so I'm ready when these drop. Please keep us updated with spring rates and options as well as camber plates etc. Again thanks for your diligent work

I guess it will depend on how quickly they come up with that front strut.

August-October is the expected timeframe. I will make no promises though, big companies move slow. I will promise to call them every single week like I have been
