Who's Installed Harnesses?

For those who's installed harnesses, can help me with the following questions:

1. Did you retain your factory 3 point belt?
2. If so did you keep the existing pretensioner or replace it with an older OEM model (i.e. e36/46)?
3. And most importantly, how did you mount both the pretensioner and harness lap belt? Did you encounter any clearance issue on the inboard side? Any pics of the install?

Question 3 is where I'm having the biggest issue. I just don't see how anyone can fit both pretensioner and bolt the harness lap belt on the driver side. My seat is really close to the trans tunnel (only way to center the seat to the steering wheel) so I have minimal clearance.

Does anyone know can you remove the factory belts without throwing any codes? Perhaps just keep the pretensioner under the seat and clip in a seat belt extender so it thinks something is clicked in?

I'll take some pictures when I get home, if I can.

Did you put a bar in or full/partial cage?

No clue what shipkiller put in but don't think anyone's done a full cage here since most of us drive our cars to/from track. Most likely a partial/half cage as most DE organizations would NOT pass just a harness bar.

I have the original harness bar that an former MC driver had made.

Remove the seat belt guide and the shoulder belts work really well.
I attached the two lap belts to the OEM seat attachment points. You do have to change the grade 10 OEM mounting bolts with longer ones, also grade 10.

The fifth belt was a puzzle. I manufactured a 1/8"x1" bar that bolts to the forward seat mounting points on the floor and mount the fifth belt to that. I ended up removing the thigh pad adjustment mechanism since I always have it pushed towards me anyhow. I still use a rubber sheet on the seat. This keeps the shoulder and fifth belts from chafing the leather.

These are early install pictures.

I stand corrected, I'm surprised CCA has never given you a hard time during Tech. I know in NJ, a harness bar without roll bar protection is not typically allowed.

Btw, last time I went to VIR I stayed in the Villas. A bit pricey but seemed worth it considering I wasn't sure if I'd ever make it back down there. You have any good hotel suggestions for the track, if memory serves me correct Alton is the closest city?

I usually stay (and so do most other drivers) at the Sleep Inn. It's 15min away from the track and much cheaper fuel is on the way to the track. Track fuel is pricy...
