Interesting, I wonder what the rationale with going with the Viper V10 versus the BMW V10? I'm sure the viper V10's aren't cheap either.
Certainly looks cool, that engine fits in there pretty nice... Would like to hear what it sounds like I bet it sounds great! |

The Viper engine has about 50% more torque. The electronic is easier to handle. It is simple to add a super charger if required. Nobody did this before. |

The Z4 is a great chassis in terms of it's rigidity and design, so it should be able to handle the power quite easily. Seems like a great platform for any type of swap. How hard was fitting the engine in the engine bay? Did you have to modify the oil pan, sway bar, steering rack, or anything of that nature? Just out of curiousity, how much heavier is the V10 compared to the I6 that you pulled out? |

Oil pan, exhaust manifold, fire wall, transmission tunnel and many others. I got the complete weight of engine and gearbox together only. Z4 3.0si: 240 kg = 530 lb SRT-10: 330 kg = 728 lb Total weight will be about 1300 kg = 2870 lb including this roll cage: |

I'm guessing based on the sticker on the windshield that this is primarily a drift car? I can only imagine what that's like, I bet the Z4 makes an awesome drift car!

With this engine and some changes in the rear axle settings it will be a good drift car too. It will be used for drift, time attack and track days. Also it gets street legal in Germany. |

Congrats on doing what I wish my budget allowed. Combine my 2 favorite cars ever (that I can afford). I loved my Viper, but couldn't live with it every day..

Also it is much easier to get the car street legal with them. And of course they should not be to expensive if you need 20 or 30 pcs. for drifting. |

Very interesting project!
SOrry to be slightly OT, but ZStig, how would you compare daily driving 500bhp viper to 500bhp supercharged z4m? |

Because the Viper is very wide, you're under a lot of extra stress when driving in the rain on the highway at night, and it isn't as enjoyable to drive through corners fast on the street because its so wide. It DOES grip as well, if not better than the z4m in corners. Turning the car around on the street, takes more than 2 lanes, and you're forced to back up while cars behind you wait. The turning circle is VEEERY annoying for daily driving. Non-ABS brakes on the older vipers are scary, they lock up very easily. You can be a professional with threshhold breaking, but sometimes you just have to stop in an emergency, and you will create flat spots on your very expensive tires... The shifter in the older viper, even with tranny mounts, fluids, an adjustable shifter, and a "ball detent" mod, is very un-pleasant to shift every day. Its also very easy to go into 2nd gear instead of 4th gear when you're going full throttle and trying to shift fast. The air conditioning cannot keep up in the summer. It was very hot. and loud..8.5mpg gets expensive to run every day. For weekends, I'd take the Viper. For a 500+hp car to drive as your main vehicle every day AND enjoy every minute, its hard to beat a supercharged z4m.
