Dunno...I usually takeoff less than 2000 to combat wheel spin...and that's with sport mode off...

But seriously - buy some better tyres, I thing we have already discussed it in a thread I dont see here now. If you have (warmed up) Pirelli Corsas, it is no problem to start with 4000 or more RPM and hit 62 mph in 4,8 secs.

As discussed in another thread, Launch Mode is only available on cars equipped with SMG. I don't remember the thread title but try this for more info

Well then, in general, what is the best method for taking off as fast as you can....say if you want to race somebody in a straight line? (only if it is safe to do so of course)

I'd drop the clutch closer to 4000rpm.

^^ Been there, done that, you'll spin the tires and be left sitting on the line. I will have a better feel after Friday for the best launch RPM to drop and to slowly let out (slipping the clutch). This is being done on a track, so the overall variables should remain constant except for RPM and clutch release. I'll keep ya'll posted.

I've thought about trying a 2nd gear launch, but damn, that is going to be hard on the clutch/tranny and you would really have to watch the redline if you are slightly off on the clutch release. I am talking about racing, not just your everyday takeoff in second gear from a stop light. I don't think the initial bog down of the engine in 2nd gear would be made up for coming off the line. I might give it a try during one of the practice runs

As far as the redline goes, the rev limiter will save you if you need it.

Might want to re-think that statement. I've already seen one M at the dealers with a blown engine from an over-rev condition. Electronics are great, but do not rely on them to save you from yourself. You do know Murphy's Law?

True...I've hit a couple times tho...but I definately wouldn't want to do it repeatedly on the drag strip.

I would highly suspect those to be mechanical over rev situations.
AKA the money shift.

Alright, here goes. Did one run with the DSC on, no way should you ever try to get going fast with this on, engine retarded right off the line to avoid wheel spin and that was pretty much the end of the story (slowest run of the night).

Practice run time was cut in half this weekend so I did not get to try the 2nd gear start, hopefully next weekend. A second gear start is actually starting to sound like a good idea, since I was having a hell of a time keeping traction. Would have to slip the clutch a little to minimize bog and not light up the tires, but with the luck I have had with 1st gear starts, will probably be a better thing. I have gotten just off the line a few times with minimal spin just to have them start spinning again about 5-10 feet off the line. I don't know the reasoning, but the traction got worse towards the end of the night.

Instead of going up against the overall nights winner in the 1st elimination round like last time, I ended up racing against last year's champion for the bracket (talk about having good luck). According to the G-Tech unit I picked up for personal timing at this event, I ran the 1/8th in 8.99 @ 83.27, not great, but not shabby compared to a lot of non-modified stock cars. I actually thought, (and so did he) that I had beat him at the finish line, but the judges decided that he got the win. This is not a real Drag Strip, it is layed out on Atlanta Motor Speedway's pit road more to have fun that to provide precise timing and scoring. There is no tree or electronic timing, so you have to go with the eyeball calls (and maybe some favoritism on the close calls).
Anyways, if anyone is interested in trying out their skills, see how fast you can go, or just want to have some fun, by all means take it to your local track (much safer for all involved).

Cheers!

^^

Would love to have you there! It is a lot of fun, even for the spectators. It is neat to see some of the cars and wonder how much sweat, blood, and money (tears come later) went into some of the serious drag cars.
