You don't need that silly scoop. Been there, done that.
Just remove the factory plastic sound restrictor that you remove anyway to put the scoop on. If you measure the increased airflow with that restrictor snout off, you find that the real airflow increase is just by removing that restrictor. Same snake oil as most CAI intakes, where the real airflow increase is by removing the internal screens and restrictor from the factory airbox.

I was looking into the RPI scoop, trying to figure if there is any actual "gain" by adding this. Is there any ? I put a new air filter in my recently purchased car when I bought it, but I'm not sure I know exactly what part your referring to when you say "plastic sound restrictor/restrictor snout" Could you please explain and or post a pic ? Do you have an actual air flow increase comparision that has been measured and would this increase HP at all, or just overall better breathing ? Totally get you with the Snake Oil comment.

The piece to remove is in front of the AC condensor, just inward of the headlight bucket. Trace the duct from the airbox to the condensor. This piece is the upward inward curving end piece. Remove and throw away.
From OBDII data, removing that piece, plus the restrictor baffle that's on the inside of the top half of the airbox, plus the screens from in front of the MAF sensor, will gain >10% intake airflow for free. 10% airflow = ~ 5% power increase. My car measured a 14% increase. 14% = 7% power increase = 330x1.07 = 353hp. My interpretation of this is that the final version S54 with the Siemens DME and final s/w mapping which the E85/86M cars got, instead of the slower Bosch DME the E46 got, makes more power. We got 350hp motors, not 330hp, so the factory put in that restrictor baffle in the airbox and restrictive intake snout tip to reel back in that last 20hp.

WOW ! Next thing I'm doing is new cabin filter AND NOW removing that snout and others mentioned. Had my Clutch Delay Valve removed/direct line in done this week. Also Vibratecnics Road mount and Rogue Engineering Tranny mount. Feels like a whole new car. I've got to relearn the clutch characteristics all over again. Been driving for 4 months with that stupid thing in. SOOOOOOoooo much better for a 10 minute job !

So I looked up MAF screen on here and found a guy wanting to put his screens BACK in ( they were missing ) So is there anything negative about removing those 3 pieces. Screens must be there to prevent something from entering something. How is the middle of the air box baffle removed ? Pull out/cut out. Sorry for being so clueless. But to gain 23 HP, I'd think EVERYONE would immediately do this. Is there a catch ?

The screen is an air straightener for the MAF. You may get wonky MAF readings without it! If you look at the screen itself, it's not very restrictive at all, so I'm not sure there's any gains to be had by removing it - just more issues and benefits, IMHO
