FS: Dunlop Direzza Star Spec 245/40 275/35 PICS ADDED
Up for sale is a set of Dunlop Direzza Star Spec Tires. They are used but still have plenty of tread left. The sizes are 245/40 18 and 275/35 18. I paid $900 plus shipping from Tirerack, the tires were purchased in April of 2010. Amazing tire but looking to get a pair of r comps for the track. Asking $500 for the set. Sorry I took so long to add the pictures - if anyone is interested and would like more information, please feel free to give me a call at 516-322-8860. Can you explain why you need R-Comps?

Cause he wants more grip! Hopefully though he has already mastered the car at the track on the street tires and is not planning to make the move to r-comps for his first track day

Being as there are BMW Club Race teams running on the direzzas, I don't think he's going to get that much performance out of moving to R-comps which will only teach him bad habits if he's still learning...

It is not so much a "need" for r comps, these tires are great on and off the track. I would like to try r comps and see how they feel as I believe I have got to the level where I can appreciate the added traction they will provide.

I am looking at the toyo ra 1 - I feel they are a good next step. Its not like I am going to hoosiers or flat out slicks.
I see your point jragan - but much thought has been put into my decision

Okay I have run RE-11s, Star Specs, RE-01Rs and now the Yoko AD-08 in terms of street tires. For track tires I run R888s currently and have also run R6s. I can for sure tell you there is a substanial increase in grip with the R888s over those street tires. In fact I have run them back to back on the track and will be actually using both the AD-08 and the R888s next weekend. The R888 isnt the huge increase in grip that the r-comp name would recommend but it is for sure more grip then the street tire. For instance during one of the time attacks last year my fastest lap was a 1:23.45 on RE-01r's when I switched to R888's my time dropped to 1:21.88. Thats 1.5 seconds faster with the R888 and that was my first time using the R888 so I hadn't figured out the best pressures of camber settings yet. Also the R888 only had two heat cycles on it and was unshaven so there was still time in the tire. The only thing I find with the R888 is that you have to be very careful hope much slip angle you use coming out of a corner. The R6 does have alot more grip then the R888. Just because there are CCA race teams running on Star Specs doesn't mean they as fast as an r-comp. The OP has done alot of HPDE with NASA and the PDA so I think he is ready to make the step to an r-comp. I do totally agree with though that making the jump to a r-comp to early can produce bad habits and can even be dangerous

Sounds great. I didn't mention stock sizes but you're right I did. I'm running stock wheels which presents ideal limits. The 235 265 set up is a little more size difference than I'd like. I live in Dartmouth - sister city of Halifax across the harbour. Port Hawkesbury is a very small community about 2 1/2 hours away at the entrance to Cape Breton. I posted some pics of my Cape Breton Cabot Trail trip on the Imola Red thread. |

Sorry, I did not get a chance to get home this weekend and take pictures. I will post up shots on Friday night or Saturday. The tires will be off the wheels and ready to ship next Monday.
