Coupe and calipers?

Thinking forward, I'm thinking about painting the calipers most likely red, but has anyone painted the calipers the same color as the car, I have a Interlagos Blue..wonder how that would look?

I've seen body colored calipers and those look cool. It all depends what you are really going for, if you want the calipers to "pop" and stand out, or if you just want to give them a fresher look.

The problem with say red or gold, is that as brake dust accumulates it makes the finish look dirty and dull.. In other words, it's just a lot more visible on those brighter colors

Personally, I don't think sliding calipers look all that attractive (even though they're functionally great), so if I was going to paint them I would probably paint them a glossy or matte black, but a blue might be kind of cool too.. You probably wouldn't have to be too concerned about matching the paint exactly, just something fairly close.

I'm a fan of the red calipers, I'm planing on getting a set of 19" CSL's in the spring and I'd like to bring to a little attention to the calipers..

Then again I like this look too..

I'm kinda torn about that too... In one sense, one side tells me "there's M badges everywhere on the car", but on the other hand, most of the other high performance brands put something on their calipers, whether it be "brembo" or their specific model (whether it be V, AMG, etc)..

Yea I'm kinda upset that a 60k sports car doesn't have painted calipers..
I might just go black and add those decals, you have a point red will get dirty faster and bmw is notorious for brake dust...

But this does look hot...

I painted mine blue... Not sure I would do it again. In retrospect, I think red would have been better. The shape of the OEM caliper is such that there isn't much room for a decal.

I've painted the calipers on a few of my cars. On my Silverstone Metallic S2000, the predecessor to my Z4 M Roadster, I painted the calipers red. I don't recall what I used, but several track sessions left the front paint singed and a few years of autocrossing and swapping tires caused the paint to chip when things weren't lined up exactly right.

Last year I painted the calipers gloss black on my wife's Le Mans Blue 335is Coupe. I used the G2 Brake Caliper Paint System Kit. This product produced excellent results and after more than a dozen tire swaps last year they still look as good as new. I've documented this on the Bimmerfest E9X forum and there are some pictures of the process there.

Here's a couple of shots from when they were first done:

I've considered painting the calipers on my Interlagos M Roadster and I'd probably go with red.

Yeah the red looks nice on blue...but just to clarify, those brakes are not attained by just adding some paint and decals!!

I have these fronts in silver. They still catch eyes since the caliper is so big...but not quite as much as red would. And some Porsches look great with the red Brembos. However, I dont know if I would like mine in red as much--they might seem out of place since my car is TiAG and my wheels are silver CSLs. Maybe it would look great...or maybe it would look funny without other red accents (well I guess my interior is red...hmmm) !

I haven't painted mine but here is some IB brake caliper paint.

G2 Brake Caliper Paint

It's definitely on the pricey side.

I used the G2 paint kit which includes caliper cleaner. The cleaning process is messy and the calipers will require two coats. I must confess I've noticed no improvement in stopping performance. But until I accumulate a few thousand $$$ for a BBK, this will have to suffice.

Ehhhh, if you're going to complain your $60k car didn't come with painted calipers, does it then deserve fake bbk covers?

I'll second how messy it is! You have to make sure that you've masked everything you absolutely don't want paint on and cover the garage floor under each corner as well. It's not coming off anything it dries on, including the cement floor. I did three coats and you have to let it dry a little while between coats, but by the time you've made it all the way around the car the first caliper is ready for another coat. It's a two-part epoxy paint and it hardens in several hours. Initially it's really drippy and it runs down the brush so make sure you're wearing latex gloves, but it will be pretty thick by the time you get to the last couple of calipers on the last coat. Everything gets really sticky and you have to toss the brush and the gloves after a while. It comes with two brushes but I picked up two sets of artists brushes at Home Depot and went through most of them by the time I was done, as well as several pairs of gloves.

After you're done with the last coat it has to dry for about 24 hours before you put the wheels on (you don't want to mess up all that hard work!), so it's a two-day process. It took me at least two hours to prep and mask everything before I started painting.

Hint: Make sure you take off the retaining clips and paint those separately.

Nice look! I can't tell if you have black grilles, but that would certainly complete the look!
