Cubby/nav box light fix?

aka rear console...

anybody ever have a good fix for this thing? like everyone else, mine stopped working and at night a matte interior is not so great for reaching in and rooting around for my altoids

bump to add a photo of the toggle/switch and say after swapping bulbs, it still does not come on :/

Usually the problem is the plastic tab breaks off the bottom of the door and they won't shut off.
Does the switch click nice and smooth when you diddle the lever?
If I get a chance tonight I'll check the schematics, but I think you should have power on one side of the switch; both sides with it removed like that, which should be the closed position. And of course, power on one side of the bulb socket.

Tab is fine, the switch feels like it is clicking, I was doing this all as part of an LED upgrade. I am debating making my own switch and wiring the light in to the emergency buttons since those are useless.

Good idea. Those buttons are useless.

once you have aftermarket stereo gear, they don't do any good thinking of replacing that spot with the change pocket thingy

If you tried an LED bulb and had it reversed it wouldn't come on even with power to it.
