pump to rack power steering hose
Just out of curiosity has anyone used an alternative to the oem bmw high pressure power steering hose for the pump to rack assembly. I brought the car into fields bmw in northfield, il. for a free car care service clinic whereby a bmw tech looked over the car while I had a sandwhich, soup and something to drink on their dime. The results came back that the car is in excellent condition, but they found a leak/light weeping from that hose. A quick lookup at ecs tuning and the oem is $235 whereas a rein brand is $117. I also saw ebay had another brand name of burgos which was @ the same as the rein brand aftermarket in price. I would prefer buying the hose and taking it to my bmw independent mechanic instead of getting shafted at the dealer. Thanks. Any input would be appreciated!

I had to replace mine a couple of years back because whoever was last messing with it didn't hold the hose in place while tightening the compression fittings.
The hose rotated and was rubbing on the oil pan. Was rubbed more than 1/2 way through when I luckily noticed it. I bought the OEM hose, probably from ECS. I covered the rubber parts with Firesleeve, just in case, and made sure I held the hose in place when I tightened the fittings. thebmwminipartstore has it for $206.
