New Lightweight battery location

I felt the OEM location for the battery was such a waste of space. I opted for the 21lbs Braille battery and made an aluminum tray to hold it in place using the Braille battery holder. I moved the fuse box and fuel pump control module to fit the battery off in the corner. Now with the added space I am going to build a fiberglass enclosure for an 8W7. The JL Audio XD600/1 amp will fit against the bulkhead just to the right of the oem amp. In the end I will have the same space as OEM but with great bass.

More pics?

Cool! I actually just bought the Braille B2618 battery and the horizontal mount for it. It's only 3.5in wide so I'm hoping to mount it to the bulkhead behind our seats. If it still sticks out beyond the trim, I'll probably have to fabricate an aluminum tray like you did in the same location as yours.

I have no interest in adding a sub, though. I'm actually just going to purchase the non-M trim panels and get myself a bit more trunk space for track day stuff!

From the looks of it, his tray is basically a flat piece of aluminium the size of the battery's bottom, with 1" walls build around the edges. Then he made a notch on each side for the battery hold down. The battery hold down you see pictured is very light, inexpensive, and easy to work with. As long as the 2 J hooks have something to hold onto, they'll work

Jumbosock, How's the battery holding up? Thinking about this mod in my Si to free up space for dual exhaust.

You beat me to it. I wasn't driving the car much and it was always dead. I got a trickle charger and that helped but one day I accidentally hooked it up backwards and killed it. Just purchased a lithium pro L925 because I don't want to mess with a trickle charger.

The wires are the OEM setup. A bit messy. I'm gonna try to clean it up.

Jegs has it for 1200

Very expensive but I'm rarely rational with my M. Some people go on lavish vacations and I spend money on my car.

No judgment intended.

As my wife says about her mods "some women want a remodeled kitchen, I'll take my aero side-skirts, x-pipe, track days and instruction (and tires) instead."

And then there are those of us who are spending money on CF roofs and doors!

No prob! I didn't think you were judging. I am actually excited to finish the battery install this weekend and take some pics to post on here. It's seriously AMAZING how light the battery is. It feels hollow. You can lift it with a finger.

FYI I daily drive my car, and I have a 11.5lb battery that holds up just fine. Never had to charge it

I don't daily drive. That's why I had battery issues. Daily driving allows it to charge more often. My M only goes out when there are zero clouds in the sky. Like a corvette.

I have many friends here (living on the coast/water) with boats that spend enormous amounts of money on their hobby. When they look at me and say "you spent how much on what"? ............. I politely tell them it's a drop in the bucket to what they spend on their boat (and I get invited to go out on the water with them as well )
