$200 for CDV Removal overpriced?

Hey DUDES!

Been busy and finally have some time and want to get that ridiculous CDV removed. I called Motorworks West and they want $200 for a cdv removal. Seems a bit overpriced. Anyone offer any advice?

I paid like $60 for a reputable shop to have mine replaced with the Dave Z piece. About 30 min work including bleeding the clutch afterwards.

So, $200 seems overpriced.

Should it really take 2 hours though. Aren't we talking about unscrewing the stock piece, inserting the modified valve, and bleeding the clutch?

Short of taking it out and visually inspecting it, is there any way for a dealer to know you did the modified CDV? Has anyone had issues with the dealer blaming a problem on this piece?

It doesn't even take an hour.... Shit it would take longer to do the paperwork and put your name on the books than the actual work. If the shop is not retarded.

They just don't want to do it, pretty standard response to small jobs like that.

My dealer installed mine and charged 1/2 hr labor. $37 as I remember.

I had a shop quote me $200 too and I laughed. It should be no more than $50

a regular jack would be just fine, a lift would just make it too easy

and if your friend has ever bled brakes then this is the exact same procedure but its easier as there is only one bleed screw,

Do it yourself!

oh and one more thing,

Your having it removed?

Or replaced with a modified free flowing one?

I wouldn't remove it, at least visually to a BMW tech a modified CDV looks identical to a regular CDV,
Could be because they are the same thing on the outside lol,

Lift makes it harder, instead of fluid running down your arm you get it running down your entire body,

That is way over priced. It is a very simple install. I did mine myself and im 16. It took 20 mins to install the modified cdv and about 10 mins to bleed the clutch. Zeckhausen's intructions are very thorough.

THere is a way for a dealer to know, because when a car comes from the manufacturer they paint various parts(dab of paint over two parts). They can see that the seal of the paint is broken. If you decided to paint the part you were replacing it won't match up. The only way a dealer would know if you changed it would be if they had to go under the car and do something. I honestly doubt that the dealer would even detedct that it is changed out.

unless the tech went for a test drive himself and is aware of the cdv mods. some techs are enthusiasts like us, others are not.

No, 200 is fine pay it. It should really be 300, thats what I got charged. All these people went to shady mechanics that did it wrong. It is a 200 dollar job. How could it not be 200 dollars to clamp a tube, unscrew a nut, rescrew it and unclamp the tube???
