Power steering fluid spilling out
When I run my car hard, the power steering fluid comes out of the little vent hole in the cap. I've noticed beedub put a sock on his. What do you guys do? Should I get a non-vented cap for the track?

Wipe it clean, refill with fresh PS fluid when low. This way you don't even need to flush the power steering fluid!

Never had this issue. I keep mine at the Max fill line.
Just came off of three days at VIR and this NEVER happens... I wonder if there is another issue? |

I have had this issue with every BMW i owned---for track use. I put gasket sealant on mine. Just seal it up once a year when I check the fluid. Some use a sock, like a friend of mine who tracks his new M3 on Hoosiers. Quit pulling so many G's is another option.

tom, if you drain a small amount out then put cut down some material to place over the p/s unit it will completely stop any further issues, drive hard enough OP and you WILL get this issue, the stock car does too but you just cant see the mess!! lol, heres my solution OP !!

tom this will completely stop any spilling issues you have, Every bmw ive had does this once the fluid warms combined with the swilling around it comes out the vent hole, dont get a non vented cap however the system is designed to run vented, just drain alittle out, run alittle cap and you wont see even a mist from it :-) promise!!

Found a solution that SHOULD work. Haven't track tested it yet. I found a very small fuel filter, and stuck it into the spill-over hole. Now it will soak up any small overflowing spills AND it breathes well, and is only about 1" long.

Hoping to run it June 10th. You could also put a piece of black electric tape over the top of it to blend it in better, it would still vent on the bottom

I expect it to fill up, and slowly drip down. The membrane should keep the flow out much lower than without it, leaving minimal cleanup compared to the oem option of spraying shit everywhere. BUT, let me test it at my next autocross before we make any conclusions

I don't mean a full can, just a small container with a line coming out of it. I'm probably overthinking it, just need a damn sock for the race days

let me tell you something, if you really want to help your car run better, run a catch can....... if you take off the plastic s/c outlet you'll be shocked by what you see, these car running Fi MUST have a catch can, your loosing valuable octane points but the blow by being ingested...
Re the powersteering tank just lower the level, make a little sock like i did, job done, you wont get a single bit of spray or mess!!
