2006 E85 Parking sensors

Newly purchased so I don't know what is supposed to work. I can see sensors on front and back go car but as far as can tell they don't do anything. Is it possible this car doesn't actually have sensors? Or are they just faulty? How can I tell and how difficult to fix? Given the cars size not sure how necessary they are but would like for them to work if they are supposed to. Thanks

To the best of my knowledge - these cars don't have parking sensors. What are you looking at that look like sensors?

Unless someone added aftermarket sensors to your car- I never heard of them on a Z4. Maybe take a photo and post it so we can better help?

Only on the rear...which is a bit pointless as it's the front I can't see...but might have just been on the optional extras list (mine is listed as option S508A - a £285 extra on a Z4M).

Mine look like this...

...any picture from further away makes them almost invisible...

I agree I don't know why there would be sensors but here are the bumpers nonetheless.

Those are your tow hook access holes.
In your tool pouch under the trunk carpet there might be the OEM tool pouch with an eyebolt that threads into holes in the front and rear bumpers. Just remove those covers you thought were sensors to reveal the threaded holes.

This!

On my photos you can see the bigger ‘cap’ level with the number plate…this is the towing eye cover.

Park Distance Control (PDC) consists of 4 parking sensors on the flatter part of the bumper, above the number plate line.

A single, off-centre parking sensor would be a little dangerous as it wouldn’t warn you of obstacles on the other side of the car.

At least I learned today that parking sensors were available in the EU market cars.

I wonder if they were only available on NAV equipped cars (for the screen) or if these were an audible only system?

Mine are audio-only…but I assume you’d have to have the TV option to have a reversing camera display anyway…and TV was a pointless (IMHO) optional extra.

Not as a factory option, but there are aftermarket solutions that are either 1) attached to the registration plate, 2) fitted in the grille below the number, 3) fitted behind the bumper, and 4) fitted into the bumper.

Just depends how easy/difficult you want to make it, and after 13 years I'm used to judging where the front end

I drove the car for may years, but still managed to drive over too tall parking bumpers too often, so I installed an aftermarket sensor that is attached with pressure sensitive tape on the bumper cover at the lower grill--once adjusted it has saved me many more scratches on my bumper and damage to that little rubber air dam. The one I bought is Curb Alert.
