ESS N51/N52 Supercharger

ESS is developing a supercharger for the N51/N52. I don't own the engine so I don't know its inner workings... but it sounded like the development costs would be high for the number of kits sold, so that's why no one has undertaken the project. And by "development costs" I mean that no one knows how much boost it can hold (cast crank, weird block material) and the Valvetronic engines don't have an easy tap for vacuum (and therefore the bypass valve). I hope they follow through, because I wouldn't mind picking up a 325 rwhp non-M

Armaspeed has a superchargerkit for the n52:
http://www.armaspeed.com/eng/goods.php?act=cat&no=179

I don't know how they control the blowoff.
The brake booster gets it's vacuum from a vacuum pump afaik, but that obviously won't work for the blowoff.
But the has a throttlebody, but I don't know it's complete function. With valvetronic one should think it would be obsolite. Maybe for esp, similar to the m52TU (with it's extra TB)

Looking at the ess graph this will also be a centrifugal setup

Awesome news. I'd definitely get a supercharger if this is legit. Coming from ESS, I'm sure it will work right. Coming from ARMA speed, I have my reservations. I read a thread about how some guy had nothing but problems with his ARMA speed supercharger for his n52.

Here's a thread on it.

$4900 for the kit? This is definitely going in sooner or later.

If you mean destroyed his motor by nothing but problems, yes you are correct lol. I wouldn't touch ARMA even if they gave me their kit for free.

ARMA supercharger units kept blowing up. I wonder if it's because they never really figured out how to pull vacuum and run a bypass valve. No bypass will cause a blower to spew its guts.

Hopefully when we have one owner install it and have some success, we'll see more interest from Z4 owners.
