Wow that's a big hit, cracked the spoke.
Is it coincidence it's right where the balance weights are?

Looks like you caught the lip of the rim on the edge of the crater and peeled it back.
Tough deal man!!

Does your state pay for the repair of your car due to pothole damage? Maryland does, you just need to file a claim, I never needed to but I know people that have and got reimbursed for the cost of the damage.

I'm from ny, and it happened in jersey...not sure what their laws are etc. I know on Long Island they used to want a photo of the pothole, damage, etc., but I definitely wouldn't be willing to drive back to an off ramp on an interstate to take a pic. If anybody knows any info on jersey wheel damage claims I'm open to suggestions

Damn, that really sucks. I did that years back here in Indy to a wheel. Unfortunately where I'm at they don't have to pay out anything unless the pothole had been previously reported and not fixed yet.
Here is the link to NJ's state level tort claim process. Looks like if you were on anything other than a state managed highway, you'll have to go through the local municipality responsible for the section of road you were on http://www.state.nj.us/treasury/risk...amage_Form.pdf

That's some major damage. Did it feel as bad as it looks when the wheel hit the pothole?
So sorry. Salty

Radar detector, Ez pass, and sunglasses flew out of holder...and that apologetic hurt feeling in your stomach was present at the moment of impact....it sounded as bad as it looks

We're finally had rain here in CA this year and the potholes are forming left and right--at least out here in the sticks where I live. It's like driving in a freakin' autoX avoiding the little bastards lately--hitting cones doesn't hurt the way hitting a crater like that does. Damn. Hope Apex can help you find a wheel. EAS and Turner both carry Apex--might be worth trying to source there if Apex is out of stock. Can't hurt to look/ask. |

Physically yes I'm ok, emotionally lol still trying to figure out where my emotions lie. However, I consider this a group therapy session, and so far it's kept me rather calm lol.
Apex will have a phone call from me bright and early, one thing I have to say is despite the impact, I'm so shocked that the tire didn't bubble, burst, or tear, and actually held up for another 25 minutes of driving and felt fine. |

Wow that's terrible. I live not too far off 4. Where was this? I'd like to avoid it in the future.
As far as getting reimbursed by the state, give it a shot but don't hold your breath. This is after all NJ and run by governor Krispy Kreme. ?

Left lane getting off 80 nj-4 or 72a nj-4w....don't specifically remember which but I think it was the latter...either way it's in the left lane right exactly where left tire would be as you would be driving... Stay towards the right lol

In theory yes, will you ever see a check? More than likely not.
