Best vehicle to pair with your e85/e86
So you have one of the best sports cars of the modern age – the z4 (or ///M variants) – but there are times when you need something else to fill the few gaps it doesn’t cover. Maybe it is a large vehicle to haul family and things, or even your track prepared car around, maybe you just need something to take the abuse from salted roads and dense city traffic. Maybe you just want a different toy – the reasons are many, but the solution is a second thing to drive.
I am ashamed to admit by second vehicle is a prius However it does one thing, and only one thing very well, it is a great commuter vehicle. Its roomy on the inside, very comfortable, dirt cheap to maintain, insure, and use, can handle constant abuse, and allows me to travel in the hov lane and park for free in many cities. Most importantly though, it is unmodifiable, allowing extra attention to my m coupe. It also allows me to appreciate the z4m coupe more every time I sit in it. The car never becomes stale, when compared to a prius atleast! I will most likely drive the prius until its end, whenever that will be and then replace with a tesla. The model 3 interests me greatly, and I think a model 3, maybe with p90d ludicrous package and awd, 700hp/700 ft lbs and close to 300 mile range all in a 3500 lb car would be the ultimate companion to my m coupe, atleast for my taste. That is if Tesla does such a vehicle |

Awesome! As you step out of the Prius and walk towards the M, you must have some sense of what Dr. Jekyll felt like upon transforming into Mr. Hyde.

Here's mine. It pretty much does everything my Z doesn't do. The only bad thing about it is the 15mpg, but I generally don't pay attention to gas prices so I don't care. I swear my Z is hiding behind it in the first picture. Proof is in the 2nd picture!
PS - How do you insert your pictures into your post if it's hosted by zpost? My attachments just show up at the end of my post. |

That's a gorgeous Z!!
Gotta have a vehicle with 4×4 in the northern states. My daily driver is an AWD Explorer with the 5.0 engine. I haven't gotten stuck in that thing yet. A friend of mine used to only have his Mustang and when it snowed a lot he couldn't even get out of the neighborhood. |

I think I got the worst other car here haha. It's a 95 honda accord that I had since high school!! Looks like hell but I honestly never had a reason to replace it (maybe except out of embarrassment!).
I like driving the Z4 whenever it's not raining/snowing/salty outside. Any of that is perfect for the Accord since it already is so old... gc |

For awhile, I had an 05 Subaru Legacy GT wagon as the practical car to pair with the Z4M. I was just about to trade the Subie in for an 09 Cayman S to daily drive when my wife and I found out were were having a baby, so the idea of having two two-seater cars quickly went out the window. I ended up getting an 09 Cayenne Turbo S. It's pretty fast and fun to drive and can get me through unplowed snow that's gotten the Subaru (with winter tires) stuck many a times before (we live in a fairly rural town outside Boston).

We also have a couple more vehicles. The FJ for handling kayaks and outdoor activities. My son drives it, now. And a MINI Countryman S for my wife. And this is my son driving a Coupe! 17 years ago. Says so right on the side of the car. Salty

View post on imgur.com I need to buy a 4 door (either an Evo or M5) to pair up with, but I can't bring myself to sell either of these cars. |

Redacre, love that 3.2 liter vert!
Cali, did you do a little custom ceiling surgery for the lift? I guess I'd have to define "best" as what works for one's circumstances and needs. Gas mileage isn't high on my list, but there are practicality considerations and specific needs. Prius would be my choice for tough traffic too, and my commute, while longish isn't traffic laden. That opens possibilities! The two current DD vehicles are an '06 Tacoma and a '16 Challenger SRT 392. The Tacoma is largely a wheelbarrow, and like Salty's, it's pretty much yellow and covered with pollen (we live in the country too). It's a practical hauler and "park and forget" vehicle. You park, forget, and don't worry about it because it's pretty beat up--can you find a new scratch? Nope. The SRT is 6.4 liters of loud V8 fun that happens to be unbelievably comfortable, handles pretty well for the heavy beast it is, goes and stops like crazy. Carries 4 adults easily, and has a trunk the size of an old Caddy (it's huge). Great trip car, kind of "fits in" out here in the sticks, and I'm just amazed at how much I like it--I keep saying "This is a Dodge?" Actually the Dodge gets better MPG than the truck (truck is a V6). Both DDs can be used to haul the dogs around too. Can't do that with two dogs and a two seater! 2005 Mazda 3 hatchback. Pretty good gas mileage, very dependable and surprisingly fits a crap load of cargo when needed. Takes a beating during Michigan winters and keeps running. I couldn't care less if it gets dinged or scratched. But best of all it's been my practice car meaning I've been learning to do maintenance and basic repairs on it. Gave me the confidence to do all the work so far on my Z4M coupe.

I would suggest another Z4... or two more...
I have a Jeep that loves the winter. I have considered downsizing by selling the Jeep and a Z for a Macan S, but I can't bring myself to part with reliable vehicles that cost maintenance and insurance only (very little depreciation left). The money could better be used elsewhere. Another vehicle to consider is a new Mazda3.

My other car is a nice, comfy 5er. It is a 5-speed with a limited-slip, so it's still a lot of fun.

Flippy paddles just isn't the same, though. Been thinking of doing the Alpina TCU reflash to help with that.
