Confession is good for the soul: I don't really care for 1st gear in the Z4M. I've never mentioned it, and maybe others feel the same. Salty

Wait a minute, 10 year olds are way to young to drive. Why would you by a 10 year old a car?
Oh, never mind.

Ive had mine almost 10 years (oct 16, 2006). Its been a DD, its gone to the track, and now its mostly a weekend fun car. I hope to have it another 10 years. Its unique, and still turns heads as much as when it was new.
Ive had many of the problems others have (window regulator, starter, windshield trim, windshield wipers, and a couple air sensors went bad, and a new battery or two) but for what the car is, it hasnt been too bad. This forum is a great resource. Listen to them, and buy one if you want one. One of the great things about these cars is that they share many parts from other cars, so they are rare, without being too rare to care for.

First post here
I picked up an '06 MR last year with about 30k miles in near mint condition and now use it as my "daily driver" as long as the roads are dry. I've only put on 1700 miles in the past 6 months thanks to my very short commute. One of the downsides is my oil never quite reaches full operating temp by the time I get to my office - only about 170F or so. I've also got a few favorite back roads that I'll do every other weekend that add another 30-40 miles or so of spirited driving. Someone mentioned before that our cars really come alive when driven hard - that's so true! I also fully agree w/ what others have said - this is a very special car and one of the last "analog" BMW M cars on the road today. It's the reason why after having owned 9 cars, I ended my journey with the MR. I love the mechanical feel you get from the car, as if it's a piece of machinery rather than a driving appliance. Forget the nav, and other fancy electronics. It's just man and machine. Everything from the S54's relentless pull all the way to 8,000 rpm's to the go-kart-like reflexes and classic roadster side profile make me appreciate this car above and beyond other cars I've owned. The MR and MC reward the driver and make you work hard to extract performance, while the same, and even greater, levels of performance are far more accessible in the new M's. And that's not a bad thing if we're strictly talking about objective performance measures, but most enthusiasts I've met still have a soft spot for the "slower" earlier M's. Either way, MR/MC, M2, M4, etc. appreciate them for what they are and the time they were put into production and you can't go wrong! |

After 5 years and 100k miles, I've got the bumper-to-bumper thing nailed. I should count gear changes and clutch pushes some day. I bet it would be astounding.

Well based on everyone's very informative posts and advice, I picked up my M2 yesterday. I hope to add a ZMC in the future when the timing is right.

I've only driven it home rolling in traffic. It sounds amazing. Suspension on the 19s is a bit stiff. There's no adaptive option on these. A lot of people keep saying its a fake M but there's no doubt that this thing is most definitely an M. I have to behave til I hit 1000 miles and get the first service. It rained all day yesterday and they salted the streets because there was a chance of snow. It's nice out today but now we need more rain for the residual salt all over the roads so I'm tempted to just leave it parked but probably not.

A fake M? Wow. I can't believe that. Is it because it borrows from the M4 and isn't a new M car from the ground up? People will be people. Every review I've read or seen has been so positive. I think you've got a fantastic car in the M2. To me, it's one of the most M cars in years. I understand you're having unseasonably cold weather like we are, today. If it came with Michelin PSS tires, those do not like to run in cold with precip on the road. Your tires would also still have the mould release, so may be even more slippery. Sure wouldn't want you to wreck it before I get that ride. I bet the ride may improve as the weather warms up, as well. The PSS is a true summer tire. Hey, seriously, congrats on your new M2, and we all look forward to you getting a Z4M Coupe some day, and hanging out with us. Until then, you've got a great car and hope you get a lot of enjoyment out of it. Salty
