I look to be doing a roof removal video on my coupe within 30 days so I can install the first pulled roof set. Then I'll dial in the remaining steps for a new seal.

Have not walked through that door yet. I'll know more once I have assembled and test fit two sets.

Ok....quick update. I was hoping that the notes I'd be taking while disassembling the Z4 coupe interior would NOT have the need to remove seats, console etc. just to get the headliner out safely................and I was right!

In fact , removing the needed panels was such a breeze I am stoked to report it. The headliner R&R will challenge virtually no one!

In the process of documenting the roof removal my plan has been to utilize whatever hand tools most of us have on hand to keep this simple. And while I can say this is the case still, I feel I have also found something that will significantly speed the process of sealant separation to a minimum.

Of course the main goal here is to remove the roof all the while not damaging paint or trim. It is easier than one might think.

I'll have more to share soon. My roof will be fully off tomorrow and I'll clean off any old sealant from both the roof and car to begin the new seal method.

I also plan on driving the car sans roof to explore any new sounds, creaking etc. to better establish structural change if any, this includes a floor jack at one corner etc.

Stay tuned !!

I already weighed the first one I obtained when making the molds. That weight is posted somewhere.

Developing the seal for either adhesive or non adhesive seal is my next main R&D.

Roof is off with no bends, warp, scratches or dings. I was doing this all solo so it was hard to shoot even stills when both hands were often needed to hold things.
I wish my phone app could post pictures, otherwise ill have to wait till I'm back home at my laptop.

Front windshield seal doesn't get bothered by this. It does cup the roof by about a half inch though . Mine sits outdoors all day these days and is still very pliable . It was only glued nearest the corners!

Its just that mine is a little tired looking, so I figured for $30 it would be a good time to do it.

we just started using some special marine sealant at work for sealing acrylic to aluminum under 14ft of water (I work in a fluid dynamics lab and we make models of stuff) anyhoo it's been really good at keeping water out, replacing fasteners and being relatively easy to remove. Made by Sika and readily available. I can dig up the exact name if you're interested.
