Headlight Intake

Hey guys I've been chatting with Pete over at PSDesigns in the UK. They've designed and made a velocity stack conversion for the S54. Performs really well. I've also talked to him about developing a few things for the Z4/Z4M. They've designed a headlight intake for their shop E46M and I feel like this would be an awesome addition to the line up of parts available for the E85/86.

We'd also talked about possibly making a lip spoiler/duckbill since there are so few of options in that dept.

Would anyone be interested in a headlight intake and/or aero bits for the platform? He wants to see if there's any interest in the idea before pursuing it.

Thanks.

This and +1 on the duckbill. If there was a more "smooth" option out there I'd be all over it.

Interesting that this thread popped up.

I originally wanted to do a headlight intake this winter...I've been watching fiberglass and carbon how to's and building myself up for the last 2 months.

Fast forward to a few days ago. Car is on jack stands for the winter, I take the bumper off, I take the headlight off, I warm up the dremel...and then I realize that a headlight intake is **pointless** (imho).

The Z4 (I cannot confirm for Z4M but I assume its the same) already has a great intake that literally runs right next to, and behind the driver's side headlight. It's a decent size, like it would fit a small fist. The intake does a smooth bend toward the front centre of the car right behind the headlight. This then opens up to an area right behind the kidney grill. This explains all the "scoops" that are for sale *cough* RPI.

So really, the headlight intake would have effectively had the same or similar result but the Z4 already has good stock piping so why muck up the headlight? The only area that can truly be improved is the actual scoop itself. The DINAN piece was amazing (google "Dinan Z4 Scoop"), large and in charge but they don't make it anymore. The mold broke a few years back. I've already tried calling over 15 dealers across North America, and even scrounged actual DINAN package Z4s on AutoTrader, to no avail.

I'm going to model a piece for myself over the coming days and have a professional fiberglass it and potentially carbon wrap. Those tin scoops just ain't big enough . I'll keep you posted.

Great, keep me in the loop, I already have a scoop on there, but as my stock intake doesn't connect up to my CSL intake, I was looking for a nicer direct ram Style intake, and for me the headlight would be perfect.. I might have a look at this myself when the bumper comes off next week..

I have to agree.

JMO, but never liked this mod.
Has no real proven benefit & just looks downright fugly.
....seems to me that it's a bandwagon mod.
