Got a Question guys....

Is a skid pad bad for our cars, NON-M. As in running in a circle to learn and test the point of adhesion(sorry for SP) of the tires? Im running a set of RE050's, should I upgrade for better handling, and they are RFT's. Gonna ditch them too the next time I get tires. I ask this because I know that the S2000 dumps oil into the intake during right turns. Wondering if something to this effect takes place in the Z4.

It's not great for the tires, but I wouldn't say it's "bad" for the car.

Ok. Reason I ask is because I attended an AutoX learning course today and there was a skid pad there aswell as a slolom. Ran the slolom twice and then ran the skid pad. Didnt go over 4.5k RPMs on any part of the course. Came off the skid pad and my car was clicking real bad. Parked it immedatley and didnt drive it at all from that point. Called my dad and he brought a trailer over and then trailered it to the Dealer. Its a CPO car so it should be covered under the CPO warranty right? I dont run the car hard and thats the first time that I have pushed it in a long while. Im talkin since Homecomming08 at the plant. About 2 and a half months. Before that, my trip to TOD in May. All maintaince has been done and well kept.

Where is it clicking from?

From what you describe, nothing you did should have damaged the car...

The clicking is loudest when the hood is open and when standing on the intake side of the engine.

The 'clicking' sound is completely normal for the M54 engine after you've run it hard. I learned about this from the BMW guys after my first auto-x myself. After a few hard runs, just open the hood and keep the engine running, let it idle for a while and the engine will be fine. On the drive home, keep the revs low and just cruise and the noise will be gone before you hit your driveway.

I wish I could give you a better / more technical description of what's going on in there, but I'm not an engine mechanic. That said, I have been assured by a mechanic and other M54 owners its completely normal.

Dealer called today after I went in and discussed it with them. The DISA valve failed, Im gonna see if I can get the old valve from them as a keepsake from the first AutoX in the Z, as well as the first engine problem. Probably not a good thing to keep but what the heck. CPO FTW!!!!!!!
