Home made Z4 Intake

Hey guys, paid 170.00 for the RD Intake for the Z4 3.0i but after I got it I was disappointed on how simple it looked and I just couldn't justify the price....so I returned it and made my own.....Total: $35.00, sounds louder (Better than my mute 335i, need a CAI) and I can actually FEEL that the car has gain a fair amount of torque

Nicely done, this should go in the DIY section also.

nicely done, but I'd be interested in seeing a dyno test to see what the numbers are.

^ even if its not more power, throttle response will be improved since it doesn't have to suck air in through that little stock intake.
Plus the sound is probably sweet lol

You're hurting the performance big time. The Z4 comes stock with cold air intake. You've just retrofitted hot air intake on your car.

And google or do a search on "ram air intake" and learn how it works.

Guys....thx for your responses
Before we get all scientific and etc..

Throle response: Def improved

But Dyno: Def Improved

Performance: for some time now the dynolucious app for the iPhones accelerometer has been very consistent w' the Z4 Times, Stock numbers time after time were as folow: 0-60: 6.4/6.2, 1/4mile@14.8

After my little experiment:
0-60: 5.8/6.0
1/4 mile @ 14.2

Not saying those are 100% accurate measurements....However very consistent from an application and a vehicle that were tested time and time before.

Thx

P.S
......EVEN if the performance was hurt Which I DOUGHT
The sound alone makes me giggle like a kid in a candy store

Sigh. I honeslty don't get it. I swear I've seen more stubborn people here who just don't listen than any other bimmer forum. It's frustrating. The Z4, or BMW in general, has been around for a long time. There are some here who are really knowledgeable about the Z4 and give good advice. Yet some other just keep ignoring them.

First of all, your test is flawed. Throw away the results. No intake in the world is going to make your Z4 0.6 sec quicker in 1/4 mile. You can add headers, less restrictive exhausts, true CAI, & software, and it's not gonna make your Z4 0.6 sec quicker.

Second, your butt dyno needs calibrations. Your hot-air intake sounds good, but it'll indeed lose horsepower and torque. You'll especially lose a lot of torque at higher speeds (+50mph). Leave the hack job to ricer tuners please.
