18x8 Lightwheel Options?

Hey all,

I'm preping my car for SCCA B-Street next year and need to get lighter wheels for obvious reasons.

The wheels need to be 18x8 and 18x9, same as OEM. The offsets can vary, IIRC about 6mm + or -. As of now I'm running 5mm spacers on all 4 corners.

The tires will have 245/275 Dunlop ZIIs. I'm trying something different with tires and overloading the wheel, on purpose.

As it stands, I cannot find anyone that offers economical wheels (think APEX) that are in 18x8. All Minimum widths are 8.5" which will be illegal.

Any options that are off the top of your head? I want to be within an APEX pricing standpoint.

Thanks in advance

More pricey than Apex but OZ Ultra's are light/strong and frequently pop up on forums (zpost, e90post and e46fanatics). I'd look out for a set from there. The Alleggerita's are also pretty good and on sale at TR at $339 each for 18x8 (fewer than 3 left so hopefully they have a pair left!)

They do have 18x9, just not on sale.

Apex makes the Aero 7 in 18x8 / 18x9, but you would probably need a 20 mm spacer in the rear.

OZ is a good bet...the alleggritas are lighter but the ultraleggeras are also light and available in the right size

Yea, that was my first bet, but I don't really want to spend that type of money only to add spacers (especially that large) to make it fit.

In addition, it probably won't work because I want to be around ET25 (like I'm running now with 5mm spacers). Running ET30 and my plans with 275 Dunlop ZIIs will not benefit and I will probably rub on the inner fender lining.

Having just finished the season in a local street tire BSP with only non-OEM tires/wheels, for 2014 I'll probably be going to Street BS as well.

I haven't researched wheels yet, so thanks for starting this thread! (As a consequence, I'll probably be selling my current tires/wheels.)

BTW, the November 2013 FastTrack has this Street Category update ...
Quote:
13.4 WHEELS
Any type wheel may be used provided it complies with the following:
1. It is the same width as standard, and as installed it does not have an offset more than ±¼” from the standard wheel for the car. The resultant change in track dimensions is allowed.
2. Wheel diameters may be increased or decreased 1” from the standard part.

Wheel spacers are permitted, provided the resultant combination complies with the offset requirements of this section. On vehicles supplied with an OE wheel spacer, the wheel spacer shall be considered as a part of the wheel. Wheel studs, lug nuts, valve stems (including pressure-relief types), and/or bolt length may be changed. Tire pressure monitoring sensors (TPMS) may be removed.

Centerlock / Spline Drive / Knockoff type hubs may be converted to lug type hubs, provided the resultant combination complies with the offset requirements of this section
I haven't yet investigated what wheel options that opens up.

I know APEX 17" can clear the brakes...but sadly they don't go 17x8
