Bavarian Soundwerks releasing speakers soon

We are indeed going to release the kit, and we're going to be releasing it soon! We have inventories en route as I type, and plan to begin shipping the kits before the New Year.

In your car we're going to start by upgrading the front soundstage. More specifically, the front midranges and tweeters. The factory mid-woofers in the kick panel remain, as they're more than capable of handling those lower midbass frequencies. We're more concerned with improving the lack of depth in the midrange and harsh high frequencies that plague the OEM speakers.

We're aware that the rear speakers need upgrading as well, and we do have the drivers necessary for the upgrade, but the installation process is beyond what most customers are capable doing themselves. We're going to make the rear speaker upgrade optional with the understanding that a professional (read: BMW dealer/independent shop) will need to handle the installation. We aren't able to offer support with that aspect of the installation, as the entire rear end of the car needs to come out to install the speakers. We'll of course have videos and .pdf guides covering the front soundstage installation.

I'll drop you a line as soon as we begin shipping, or you could place your order and get on our waiting list so that you're able to get in on the first shipment of speakers provided they're not already spoken for. If you'd like to chat prior to placing your order (we don't bill you until the speakers ship), please don't hesitate to give me a ring.

--

Best,
Theo Rademacher | Bavarian Soundwerks

very interested! the lack of mids would be my biggest complaint. after that the harsh highs, and the muddy lows. that being said, it really does have some good bump in the bass for small stock speakers, just muddy.

it sounds like yall noticed the exact same problems, will definitely be looking into this.

Guess whose Z4 is pictured in the instructions...

BTW great guys, good company, and they know what they are doing. I was impressed with how efficiently and safely they were able to take apart the car to access the speakers. The options they were stuck with for the rear speakers were to either have the customer take apart everything to access them (beyond what most customers are capable of doing) or having them cut them out from the front (who is going to feel comfortable doing that to the car?). If I remember correctly, the rear speakers are actually the same as the front but play a different range of frequencies.

Yea what did you think? What radio do you have nav or non-nav? If my car is anything to go by, the 03-05 had an ok setup already that could manage some decent bass. It seems like it's the post facelift carver set up that gets the most complaints.

I don't have the speaker upgrade. They just used my car for testing and the install instruction guide several months ago. I'll probably purchase it when the time comes.

I got a free DICE installed. They used the car for testing and to create the instructions (I believe it was a video). At the time there was no Stage 1 speaker system upgrade. The purpose of me bringing my car to them was so that they could create one after taking audio samples, and to try out different drivers.

The amp should be in the back with the battery

That is the problem,... it isn't there.. I heard a rumor that they moved it, but I don't know where to.. Does anyone have an 07 or 08 roadster with an amp in the boot with the battery?

Is there any chance from all of this R&D that anyone might have taken the time to get some measurements for the various mounting locations?

I would have hoped that we could have gotten some idea of what sizes might fit in the various locations - that is always the thing that keeps people from jumping in, the uncertainty of what may or may not fit. I am interested to know just how much room is in the panels behind the seats - a pair of high end 8" subs, one behind each seat, would be great. Thing of it is, if I wanted to know, I'm stuck tearing everything apart just to find out - if someones car was already torn into, I wish measurements had been taken.....

I'm doing this right now and replacing everything. Should be done in the next couple of days. Will be using:

Alpine CDA-117 head unit
Alpine PHA-H100 Imprint Audio Processor
Alpine CE-250BT Bluetooth Adapter
Alpine PDX-F4 amp for front & rear
Alpine PDX-M6 6 for sub
Alpine SPR-13S 5.25" component set up front
Alpine SPR-17w 6.5" midbasses in the existing sub locations
Alpine SWR-T10 10" thin sub in a custom fit enclosure just behind the battery
Keeping the stock rears behind the headrests, will be powered by the HU. Will fade in as necessary for fill

I really didn't want to replace everything but after researching all of the options in keeping the stock head unit and trying to make something work in the stock sub locations I decided to just bite the bullet and replace the whole thing. The cost of summing interfaces and a EQ alone costs more than a replacement head unit.

This won't sacrifice much space (everything but the sub can be hidden entirely), will sound great and I still keep all the steering wheel controls, bluetooth, etc. Should still look stock after it's done.

Hey, can you please try to document things at least a little as you do this? I know it's a huge PITA, I've been there before - all you want to do is get the work done. If you could just manage to snap some pics as you go (well, lots of pics, never can have too many....) that would be awesome.

I'm sure I'm not the only one here very, very curious about things like the procedure for getting door panels off, aftermarket speaker placement, and what you are going to do with that head unit, to name just a few. BTW, are you replacing NAV, or do you not have BMW NAV in your car?

Best of luck, should be a nice Present to yourself!

I'm having a local shop do the install but I will take some pictures afterwards. I don't have the space to build the enclosure and I hate dealing with fiberglass.

Getting the doors off, head unit out, etc is all relatively trivial. The pinout for the stock amplifier is on Bill's page (http://www.billswebspace.com/A18%20Amplifier.htm) and you can either cut that harness and re-use the existing speaker wires or run new ones. RCAs can be ran along the transmission tunnel and through the pass through into the rear.

My car doesn't have NAV.
