The same way most race cars are done;
string lines for toe & thrust angle, plus I have a camber gauge. & corner balance scales Quote:
Welds are better than it shows in the pic. They aren't meant to be a show piece, just structural.

And here I was under the impression that this kind of work was done in the winter when it is nasty outside, not during the summer.LOL

Nice stands...very clean... I'm just particular to welds. Wow how accurate are those portable alignment tools...same as a hunter alignment machine? I don't race nor ever track my car so I didn't know how track alignments are done. That's awesome....just jack up front and then back and then put the car on the stand? how do you make it so it's level and able to move the tire around to adjust the toe and such. Sorry for the 20 ?s, but it's very interesting. I have to drive 60 miles round trip to get my alignment done.

Looks awesome! Posts like this make me miss my personal garage just a tad.
You've probably already done it, but when you put the standard in the garage, mark them and level them out to the garage floor. While the stands themselves may be true and 100% accurate, inconsistencies in concrete pours can cause some headaches for you numbers. We typically use a laser level and shim the stands to be true with one another. Another tip, fill some big garbage bags with Pam spray or some type of grease and put them under the tires when you're making your changes, cheap skid plates that are extremely effective.

People have been doing string alignments on cars forever, it's super accurate it you take your time and double check your measurements. A hunter machine doesn't align the car, it just provides points of reference for the person aligning it. It was based off the same principles as string alignments. Go to most major races and you'll see teams setting up even the most expensive of race cars using this method.

I agree, leveling is key. I used the same method as you, with the laser. & I have greased sheets of SS sheet metal for skid plates

The stands are laser leveled. Once it's on the stands you don't move the wheels around, but they are on skid (slide) plates that let the car sit normally on the suspension.
