As Hammond says in the 3.0i review, its not about the numbers, its about the look, the sound, the feel of it.
Anyway, its stopped snowing so I'm going out now to shovel the driveway. Byuck!!!!

No, if you watch carefully, they are definitely comparing it to the Boxter S. But keep in mind that this was 2006 or 2007 and the Boxter S back then only made about 280 hp. The Boxter S today makes about 320hp.

After reviewing again I agree it must be the S since they said the horsepower difference was 60 something. The UK numbers are a bit different.

Here is another that I like to watch from time to time, featuring the 5th Gear guys with a Z4 3.0si and a Nissan 350Z.
Enjoy!

The Viper/Z4M comparison wasn't done on Top Gear, but one of Clarkson's solo videos. There seemed to be some dramatic license taken.
On Top Gear, Clarkson was down on it as a counter-point to Hammond, who was a fan of the Z4 (and, like Jason Plato of 5th Gear, liked it enough to buy one); Clarkson hasn't been as negative in written or other reviews. I can't imagine he'd be comfortable at his size/weight, though. |

The interesting thing is that when Clarkson drove the new Z4 Sdrive35i, he much preferred this car to the E85/86 Z4. He also made the strange comment that drivers of the E85 Z4 were likely to be "wife-swappers". Clarkson is entertaining most of the time but does make some strange analogies.

Here are Clarkson's reviews of the Z4 M Roadster and M Coupe...
The roadster review is somewhat favorable: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/dri...icle726903.ece The coupe review is definitely not: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/dri...icle625530.ece |

Exactly - because the E89 sDrive is much more like an SLK Merc (which is what Clarkson likes). The E89 has all the extr33m stuff toned down and fattened up, ... the original hot chilli pepper E85/6 made mild and comfy for a very different audience ... exactly why I don't like the E89. Such a compromise car.
