America's 5 Fastest Roads
Summer driving doesn’t always mean spending hours sitting in traffic and crawling along the interstate on the way to the beach. On the fastest highways in America, some drivers are blazing down stretches of open road at more than 90 mph.......

Two things...
1. Clearly, they haven't sampled the 5 freeway between LA and San Francisco. People regularly do triple digits out there. 2. This is exactly why I don't want GPS in my car. I'd rather not have my speed data "collected".

You are correct. I was tailing a Mercedes Benz AMG SL55 with my old modified 350Z up to 147 MPH. We were on the 5 heading to the Bay Area at 2am and I must say we held that speed for a solid 5 mins and the AMG pulled away like I was a civic. lol But they usually have a plane monitoring or CHP on the on-ramps....

The 280 between SF and San Jose used to be good for opening it up, but they've really stepped up enforcement in the past five years. That said, I appreciate the fact that you can still tool along with the speedo pegged at 80 and the CHP doesn't bat an eye.
On an empty stretch recently I got the M up to 145 before the fear of being arrested lightened my right foot. It was a good thing too, because I was down to about 100 when I crested a hill to see a chipper pulling radar duty. He must not have been paying attention to the nose dive my car took as I decelerated to about 70 in no time. I drove by him totally puckered and staring in my rearview just waiting. But no lights.

I made a trip from San Jose to SD in 5:45 once. I wouldn't recommend it, but the 5 is very fond of triple digits speeds, specially at night.
The fastest I've been on my Moupe was 175mph (speedo) while I went for a "Mexico Run". . I don't know how much would that be GPS measured though, but it was quite exhilarating seeing the needle almost touching 180mph.

The Dallas North Tollway (i.e. the "Mexico Expressway") is Texas' own little Autobahn.

On the flats of CA 58 between Barstow and Bakersfield. Don't get too frisky in the mountain stretches, however. Early morning hours are best, but watch for the critters.
