Clicking noise

Hello all,

Recently I noticed that when coming to a stop i would hear clicking. I know it isn't my brakes either since i hear this when i reverse too when i dont hit the brakes. Seems to only click when im moving slowly. It doesn't click all the time either....
Im thinking it is some part of the suspension?

Thanks

You might want to check for rocks in and around the caliper and the shield.

Just checked my brakes last night and didn't see anything stuck around the brakes. I'm not sure if it's coming from the brakes or the engine bay just know that it's from the front end. It's not very loud and you can really hear it only of you are listening for it. I would take it to the dealer but my warranty just ran out

So it occurs both when you're braking and when you're not? Probably rules out a warped roter.

And it occurs both going forward and reverse? Does it occur when you're slowing down (both reverse and normal) or when you're accelerating in reverse?

The diffs on our M's are noisy. Mine chatters quite audibly at very slow, car park speeds. Perhaps that's what you're hearing.

It occurs both braking and not braking. Basically anytime the car is moving slowly forward or reverse. I'm not sure if it is only happening only at slow speeds as the sound is not too loud. Most likely it isn't the diff as it is coming from the front end of the car.

I might take it to a shop to have a look at it after I get off wrk today

Checked tires and no nail... Just noticed that it happens when I turn my wheel too. It's not a lot of clicks maybe around 5 clicks at max

Could be very small rocks inside the parking brake drum, might be worth checking, although it sounds as though you have isolated the sound to the front of the car. Had this on my car, would come and go, but was most noticeable at low speeds and after making a turn, as the rocks would move to different positions between the brake shoes and backing plate.

Removing the rear brake rotors and cleaning the parking brake area solved the problem.

I am having the same problem on Z4 2011. Clicking noise at parking speed .I took it to dealer and the manager gave a (sounded to me like bs) that the technology... and the way the new rotors are design ...and the brake calipers touch, but they shouldn't when they are hot. In short, there is nothing they can do about it under the warranty. I am having a hard time believing that the engineers at Bmw said:"....(insert German accent here)....ahh that's no big deal..a little noise from the brakes..sounds great..sell it.)"
I am still looking for an answer. If anyone finds a solution, please post it. It's drives me crazy..."its like i'm riding a kiddie bike with a plastic piece in the spokes."
thanks all.

Clicking or clunking? Check the torque on the strut bolts.

I had a similiar issue a while back. it turned out to be a slightly loose bolt on the steering column. the technician tightened up the bolt and the problem was resolved.

What kind of clicking? If it's creaking like squeaking noise... I had my rear sway bar make noise...took it to the dealer and they discovered it to the problem and tightened it. M suspension I find are stiff and does require some service from time to time such as tightening the bolts again. Since the Master Tech tightened the sway bar...the creaking is all gone. Drove me crazy and I put up with it fora few weeks. Good luck.

P.s. Good call on the the screw or nail in the tire...definitely does that when you pick up one on your tire. I hate that sound...I know I have to go get it taken care of right away when it happens.
