IT WORKED: 3.0I to 3.0SI Conversion + Exhaust Vid

So it worked !!!!

Two things to consider:
1. The techs at the shop told me that for some reason they were unable to get the automatic transmission to work as they wanted.
2. They did not have a big fan which they said affected the readings (especially with the RPI scoop when I'm going 65+ mph)

^^ Both the above things considered he was sure the engine is actually putting out 10 more bhp then what the sheet shows.

Anyways, enough of the crying and cribbing ... with 18% Drive train loss -->

270HP and 246ft-lbs

List of Mods:
1. Manifold Conversion - $200
2. SS Race Muffler - USED $600
3. AA Tune - $299
4. RPI Scoop - $100 (Didn't make a difference in the dyno pulls)

I think its done quite well especially when an extra 10bhp puts me at 280HP at the crank.

A big thanks to -C- for the DIY.

so thats just the software or did they dyno tune the car?

i cant wait to take my car to AA this spring and get her dyno tuned specifically for my car with the exhaust and such, very curiouse what it will bring!

also very suprising numbers!! it would have been cool if it was a piggyback system so we could have seen it in stock form i also wonder if we unpluged the DISA valves if it make it more like a stock I.............darn you kirkpart! i cant stand it anymore i need to get it out of that darn garage!

oh well just a few more weeks to go!!!!!

also can you elaberate on the transmission problem they had?

the only downside is we dont have sheets showing stock numbers on this dyno so the numbers we need to guage the tru HP gain is hard to do but even so you could be within 10hp give or take of the SI witch when you think about it is 45HP more than our "I" so all said and done 35HP or 45HP for 500 bucks on a NA engine! THANK YOU BMW for making this possable! hehehe

Just got AA to do a N52 tune. Made sure they knew I had a the SI manifold. Then waited for a week and dyno'd it today. No specific Dyno tune.

About the auto transmission, he said that on the dyno it would not want to get to the higher RPM's properly. He took it for a drive on the road and said it was perfect there. I'm not a 100% certain what he meant but I'm meeting him soon so I'll try and understand properly.

But, from a stock 215 .... I'm liking the numbers ALOT !!

well i know that the tune they had was for a 325I and our cars have a few things different about them exhaust and intake as well as a few other things, hence why AA said it be best to dyno tune the car to get the best out of it.

i wonder if your transmission issues where a result of your DSC kicking in, as that would result in RPM loss or other funny things?

here was another dyno sheet showing a stock SI then tuned SI, so your numbers are close, but still would have been nice to get the stock pull on the same dyno as each dyno is different.

but either way can you feel a huge difference in taking off ?

It was for sure something to do with DSC kicking in. That's kinda what he was saying. Wow so I'm on par with a tuned SI. That's pretty siiiiiiick .... Yeah all dyno's are different but this was the best I could find/afford ...

There is a big difference taking off. I mean BIG SQUEALING difference ... Its also a lot touchier. Flex my toe and I'm off ... I've been racing around against friends cars .... C4 corvettes .... JDM's with 65 shots of nitrous, mustang GT's and i've been wiping the smiles off their silly faces !!!

Again thnx for ur help ...

I don't think the car would accelerate much at all with DSC still activated. Rear wheels spinning with the fronts stationary? Torque would be cut and the brakes applied. I doubt DSC was still ON.

Grats on the car by the way. This sounds like one of the best bang for the buck performance mods for the 3.0i.

Congrats!

Curious, how'd you get the AA tune for only $299? I thought it was $399... also which brand is the race muffler?

Yeah it was off but it still kept interrupting, which is what was confusing us.

Just took it to PSI in Winter Park, FL and thats what they charged me. No clue. Maybe cuzz they are real good friends of mine. I didn't bother asking about the prices, just paid what they asked me to in the end .
Its a SuperSprint muffler.

That's what I was thinking about last night actually. Maybe he did not turn it off all the way (even though I explained that to him). But either way im pleased

Pics of the muffler, or rear end of your car? Curious to see how it hangs on the facelift z4's...

There are 3 modes. DSC, DTC, and completely off. Our cars aren't like GM/Mercedes cars where "off" just means "less intrusive." Off is really off. If you were in DTC mode (a quick press of the button), you still wouldn't be able to accelerate much at all without the system kicking in. Want proof? Try and do a burnout in DSC or DTC mode. The front wheels would be stationary and rear spinning (like on the dyno), albeit only one wheel is spinning. Torque would be cut and brakes applied within a second in either mode.

I think it has something to do with the transmission or the way they performed the dyno. Maybe the auto was wanting to kick down gears?

yea you would have to be in manual mode to keep it from kicking down a gear.

Okay...I need to be educated a bit here.

Does the system start in DSC, then single push move to DTC, and then hold for "OFF"??

Silly second question...does the system reset itself to DSC after stopped (shutdown)?

And is this the same for the 3.0i, 3.0si, and ///M models?

Back to thread...

Video sounds real nice...very low ...I was actually expecting a bit of ricer sound.

No. The M doesn't have DTC mode. You're either all in or all out.

wow, congrats!! that's pretty exciting gains. I'm definitely looking into it for the wifes e90 now.

On a side not I can't stress enough how much I love NA inline sixes from BMW. I've been driving my new x5 w/ the n55, albeit different cars, my wifes n52 is so much more exciting and engaging. Just solidifies my decision to go n52 over the n54 on the e90

Video sounds really good, I like the rasp. Yes, I'd raise if possible, just enough so it's not hanging below the lines of the bumper.
