Only the well commented on popping from the rear towers when turning slowly over bumps on inclines. Nothing from the front end.

I just brought my car in 2 days ago for the same problem. It sounds like a single pop noise when I go over a small ditch or bump. The dealer just fixed it and told me it is a defective shock mount, which was changed. So, definately bring it in and have them change it for you.

I've been hitting alot of friggin pot holes and drains and other friggin obstructions since getting back up NE. And I thought the roads in SC were bad...
I guess I'll have to start listening for unusual noises...but the thought of it is kinda scary...I still haven't found a new dealership...

Oh, hey, so you guys know...
I was hearing a clunking/popping noise coming from my front suspension when I would go over small bumps and ridges at low speeds and with the wheel turned... Took it to the dealer, and they fixed her up by re-torquing some of the bolts on the engine mount braces - or so they told me. I had read about alot of people hearing this same, or a similar, noise from the front or rear suspensions, and many people have posted that the re-torquing of some bolts usually fixes the problem. So if you're experiencing the noise, I think your best bet would be to go to the dealer, tell them about it, and ask them to double check the bolts either in the front or the rear (could be the engine mounts, strut towers, suspension mounts, etc) and have them re-torqued if necessary. Hope that helps anyone who has the problem. I know information regarding the issue is ALOT scarcer than it should be, considering how widespread it is. Everything from 3er to Z4s to X5s have reported it!

Yeah I have this too. A few days ago it got worse. Its random and annoying. Sometimes it happens constantly for a min. And sometimes it never happens at all. I just ran outta warranty on mines so I gotta figure this out and replace what ever is busted or worn out. Anyone else have any suggestions?

It happened to me when my car had about 3100miles on. At first it wasn't consistant, could only hear it in big bumps. But 2 weeks later, it got worse, it happened even when i shift. I brought it to dealer and they said it's just a loosen screw between the engine compartment and dashboard.

When gas presurized shocks begin to fail they sometimes (maybe always) make noises over small short-interval bumps. It is often heard at low speeds. The noises are not a rattle (multiple sounds). A sure sign of gas shock failure is oil seepage. This leakage is not likely to be seen on your garage floor as it is usually absorbled by road dirt. Your shock will appear to have an oily grime.

It is the bolts on the strut braces. They come loose and when the body flexes they make a popping sound. Take it in to service, tell them they have a service bulletin on it and they will fix it. Only takes a minute.

Wow, I've been hearing that for awhile. In my case I took it to 2 different dealers who told me they could find nothing wrong. A service manager even went for a ride with me to hear the noise, of course I couldn't get the noise to happen. One mystery solved, thanks!!
Now if I could figure out the random DSC engagement problem. Oh, and the air bag "off" problem and then the air bag warning light problem. All random and intermittent yet not a problem according to the dealer. |

My problem is a shocks. After i took the springs off. I found that the shocks compress really easily. No oily film but I can hear a swishing sound as i manually compress the shock. I shoulda taken it to the dealer while under warranty. Oh well.
