Well, the 3.0si cars have run-flats ... and the M's do not ... Maybe there is something in that !?

Currently I own both a Z4 Coupe 3.0si, with the Performance Package, which has the lowered suspension and a Z4 M Coupe.

I have the same size wheels and tires on both cars.
I measured each car from the floor to the bottom of the front fender above the front tires.

The Z4 Coupe 3.0si was exactly 1/2" lower than my M Coupe.

The 3.0 is wearing M wheels.... "wish I were an M."

The M is wearing aftermarket wheels... "Yeah, I'm an M, nothing to prove."

just sayin'

Gee, I dunno, maybe the owner just likes the style of the M rims better than his OEMs or other aftermarket rims and wanted a set for his car. As for me, in my opinion, the Style 108s on my SI look much better and more aggressive than M rims.

Sorry my comment was intended to be more light-hearted than perhaps it came off. No offense intended. Casual observation.

================================================
Here is the story…

I knew I was not going to keep the factory 3.0si wheels for 2-reasons:
1. I did not want the drive-flat tires that came on the car
2. Ever since I toured the BBS factory in Germany, I have always used BBS wheels

I had the factory wheels & tires sold using the BMWCCA’s Roundel, before I picked up the car at the factory.
A set of BBS CH silver wheels and M Coupe size tires were waiting in the garage, when I got the car home.

Because the 3.0si, with performance package, sits lower than the M Coupe there was a slight clearance problem with the BBS wheels. They were on the car for several years.

So, when I bought the M Coupe, I tried the M Coupe wheels on the 3.0si.
The M Coupe wheels fit better and looked better on the 3.0si, in my opinion, so I decided to keep them on the 3.0si.

Then I bought a brand new set of BBS CH black wheels and new tires for the M Coupe…

Two things.

First, it's way too early to store your car. I am in Canada without heated seats and my 3.0 SI is what I am driving to work today, and for the next few weeks.

Second, I too found the tram lining and rough/loud ride when my car still had it's run flat tires. Last August, I installed a set of Hankook Ventus V12s, and the transformation in the car is nothing short of remarkable. A massive improvement - quieter, smoother and almost no tramping (you will still get a bit owing to the fact that the front tires are wide compared to other cars like your Civic).

Cheers!
Where in Canada do you live? Toronto? I'm over here in Rochester, NY. We've been pretty lucky with the weather. Last week it was gorgeous. But from here on out, it looks like rain through the rest of the month. I figured I'd just put the car away before November hits. Even in November, I can probably make a case to keep using the car. It usually doesn't snow regularly until after Thanksgiving. Since this is my first bimmer (and maybe only unless I get a sedan for the family), I'm probably babying it too much. I avoid using it when it is raining.

Already I've got my whole list of goodies to buy this spring. I can't wait!

Both my M and non-M have 18" wheels. The M wears 255/40/18 (rear) stock while the non-M wears 255/35/18. The non-M cars have smaller diameter tires, regardless of wheel size. Runflats don't matter.
