I had that happen a few times, usually on the brakes, with the new tranny mounts, it hasn't happened.

I suggest Autosolutions SSK. It makes a big difference how it shifts.

For those that experienced 2nd gear grind, have you fix the engine mount bolts? I had the worst grind and noticed my engine mount bolt was bad. I have dealer looked into that. They said they reproduced it prior to fixing engine mount bolt. It was not grinding after they replace the bolts.

I have not grind since I change tranny mount, Autosolutions SSK, and Redline MTL. It is a bit notchy when cold, but I feel confident it will not go in the wrong gear.

I be happy to take anyone for a ride if you are in the Bay Area.

I just replaced my CDV last night with the revised (fake) one. In normal driving it does make it easier to drive now, so far I like it.

I just had the UUC black neoprene trans mounts installed,
and the fluid changed to Royal Purple Synchromax.

To put it in simple terms.... HOLY SCHIT!!!!!

1st the mounts.
Even with the black neoprene there is some NVH transmitted to the cabin.
BUT, it is very mild.
You notice it a bit starting off and at a couple of points in the RPM range.
I kind of like it actually, it makes the car feel like even more of a raw beast.
Additionally my exhaust sounds even better.
If you like to keep things silky smooth you may find it mildly annoying.
I would be willing to bet that my co-pilot would not notice the difference though.

Performance wise, the shifter feels rock solid now.
It's amazing just how much movement there was before the upgrade & is now gone.
It makes finding the gates much easier and precise.
definitely a mod.
- can't wait for my next track day

The tranny fluid.

I could not be more happy with the difference that the Synchromax made.
It makes a HUGE difference in the way the tranny feels going through the gears.
It feels light and precise, much less rubbery.
The synchro engagement feels so much smoother.
It also feels like there are less losses in the tranny.
It's surprising but the car just feels like it is pulling harder.

On another note;
My tech suspects that the fluid has never been changed.
My car definitely had the 1200 inspection done, but it looks like they didn't bother with the tranny.
I should have suspected this because when I did the diff fluid previously & it looked bad too.

Guys... with these two changes the car drives soooo much better.
It has far exceeded my expectations.

Pretty much what I have experienced as well, albiet with the Redline MTL. I do notice a small additional vibration, but only in the cold, after things warm up, I don't notice it. I do notice the gates clean and especially engaging 1st from a light, it just snicks right in. No denial to 2nd from 3rd, or 3rd from 4th, braking or otherwise. A worthy investment.

Great feedback. Sounds like some must do mods.

Will these Transmission mounts help with quieting down the whole drive train chatter problem known with these cars?

Sounds good. My mounts are ordered already though and I'm looking for synchromax. None available locally.

Sounds like you'll be great at marketing!

Seriously, Are you guys swapping these mounts out while under warranty? I'm just worry that should I have any transmission issues down the line, BMW will point to those aftermarket mounts to deny my claim.

Hmm seems like my engine/trans movement theory on making the linkages move holds true. Even though I haven't had any issues with grinding I'll probably get a set just because I liked the way it felt and changed my last car when I swapped mounts out.

As for the warranty, yes, it probably is some kind of void issue. I weighed that with the few transmissions being replaced (ZF Type-H), in these cars and the fact that I'll most likely be out of warranty if it does need work. The BMW mounts have always been too soft.

IMO if they did void the warranty on that account it would be total BS in this particular case.

I'm all for the "pay to play" policy (change my springs and something breaks, it's on my dime; put a S/C on and bake a piston, my dime). I think they put the wrong mounts on the car. That's been proven given that the 3rd to 2nd denial issue is corrected with proper mounts (that issue should not exist). And there's pretty good chance of a money shift with the stock mounts in some scenarios (which we would get nailed for, even if the mounts caused it--good luck proving that). So replacing them actually seems the responsible and smart thing to do--especially if you track or autox the car. The stock mounts are probably fine for the non-M Z4, but way too soft for the ///M. It's an easy to correct parts bin selection error.

Since the swap is less than an hour to do a cheap insurance policy would be to keep the stock mounts and re-install them should the need arise. It's a bit sneaky, but in this case I don't see an ethical problem with it.

Now if you put semi-solid race only poly or steel and poly mounts on that's probably pushing it into the "pay to play range". Just opinion here guys, not fact, so it's up to your judgment of course.

They can't just void the warranty unless they prove that your modification was absolutely the cause for some problem that would normally be covered.

Very long and educating thread.

So where did we net out on a possible solution?

I have a 3.0si and I have a grind from 1st to 2nd. Also, when I bring the car from 4th or 3rd to 1st at a light while standing still I hear a loud clunk noice.

Would the solution for me be? New trans fluid and something else?
