Acoustics with Locking/Unlocking
Hi,
I have a 2006 Z4MR. When I unlock the door with the remote, the hazard lights flash and I hear a beep for acknowledgement. When I lock the door with the remote, the hazard lights only flashes...not beep. Is there a way to have it programmed so the beeps sound for locking and unlocking? |

Yep...you'll need to have it reprogrammed. Beeping when locking and nothing when unlocking is a sign that the alarm wasn't programmed correctly. My dealer struggled with getting this right when I first installed my alarm and had them do the programming. If all else failed, have them delete all the memory settings and then re-enable them. That's how my dealer was able to finally got my alarm to work correctly, after the 3rd or 4th trial if I recalled.

If it beeps, you have the siren, which have the alarm built-in. It cannot beep if you don't have the siren installed. The car doesn't come with a siren by default.

Are you sure you have that right?
You need to enable it in the GM5 module QUIT_AKUST_SCHAERF - ACOUSTIC LOCKING ACKNOWLEDGE (SINGLE ALARM BEEP) = aktiv QUIT_AKUST_ENTSCH - ACOUSTIC UNLOCKING ACKNOWLEDGE (TWO ALARM BEEPS) = aktiv Also make sure: NEIGUNGSGEBER - TILT SENSOR = aktiv in case someone try to jack, tow or flatbed your car. Also if you have a vert with interior sensor. FUNKINNENRAUMSCHUTZ_HI - ULTRASONIC INTERIOR MONITORING REAR = aktiv The dealer enabled my alarm but never enabled the tilt sensor, idiots.... Try jacking your car up with the alarm on to find out, just have the key handy. |

Pungo, do you know any other features that can be coded for these cars? I downloaded a .pdf online which had a few things in there but am trying to compile a list of all the features available. PM me if you know any other good stuff, I did not know about the tilt sensor or interior sensor |

Mine: 3 signal blink AE as DRL (weak) windows up with remote no chime with ken in and door open no chime for freeze warning no chime if seat belt not latched no accept nag for nav custom amp coding to make coupe sound more like roadster, deeper bass. And to keep on topic: single beep, double beep on lock/unlock alarm. |

So far this is what I have compiled
(open office format, I will save the final version in a MS excel format) Just won a bid on eBay for a diagnostic computer for $250... not too bad IMO. Was going to buy the one-click software to try it out and get a decent laptop as well but, this comes ready-to-go and thats a winner in my book To try to stay a bit on topic, you can also change whether the hazards illuminate with the lock/unlock |

Do you have the eBay listing for that diagnostic computer. I have the one click software installed on my notebook and am curious as to what you actually bought.

It was an option. Therefore, if your car don't make a beep when you're trying to enable the chirp function, then you don't have an alarm.

The alarm comes with a hood switch set the alarm off when the hood opens. The switch mounts to the center of the firewall where the hood closes on it.

We kind of drifted on this topic, but there is in fact a 'bug' with programming the alarm chirp on the Z4 alarm system. The second post is correct, if you 'reset' the car to defaults and then reprogram ALL car/key memory settings, the chirp setting should take on the car.

+1 to the earlier comment. I had the exact same problem after installing the alarm system and taking it in for programming.
When initially programmed, it acted exactly as you described. Had a discussion with the service manager and ultimately they called BMW and completely reloaded the computer program. Three hours later it was working perfectly - chirps once when locking and twice when unlocking. |

coding
Check out this website: www.codemycar.com You can see what's available for the e-85/86. I had my car recently coded over winter by Okee(okay). I picked from a list what I wanted, he jumped in the driver's seat, hooked up a cable and uploaded the new codes. By chance he was here in Chicago and I figured it would be easier to meet the guy and have him on site versus sending something out or receiving something that I would screw up. Super nice guy, fast and well worth it. I switched wheels from the stock BMW M wheels to Apex ARC-8's with no tpms. So I was getting a dil for it. Not anymore considering the cost of the tpms sensors, installation and a whole host of other codes added in at the time this was the way to go. Check it out below. Highly recommend it.

I didn't think this function was available on the E85 / E86:
10) Passenger Mirror Tilt Curb Function Although I would love to have it.
