M3 about 62k 414hp/295tq. That buys you a 2dr grand sport w/3LT which is 430hp/424tq Sure it's still more power (significantly more torque) but the m3 also seats 4 and has more features/creature comforts. The ZR1 is 110 grand or so.

"French uber-muscle"
Bugatti Veyron SS = 1200hp, 1100lbft So whats your point? I guess if you wanted to show that other cars have more power than the M3, congrats? Most of us were aware of that already but thanks for sharing your in depth knowledge. |

I traded in my '08 Z4MC for an '08 E90M three years ago. In terms of performance, the M3 was better in every way. Straight line, twisties, braking. All that with everyday usability, minus the abysmal fuel economy. The thing that surprised me the most was how well the M3 handled, with a less punishing ride. Also, the shifter was 10x smoother -- no 1-2 notchiness or difficultly downshifting into 2nd.
That said, the Z4M was more edgy and fun to drive. It turned heads everywhere I went, and it was cool having the last performance-oriented NA inline 6. As glorious as the S65 V8 is, there's nothing like the growl of a BMW inline 6. Anyway I sold the M3 and now I'm looking for a Z4MR. Yes I'm a giant contradiction

These are unfair to compare. Neither of the non-M3 vehicles have back seats and civil qualities on the street. To be fair, you need to compare a sedan or coupe with a rear seat like a 991 (pathetic rear seat, yes), Mustang GT 500, Camaro (gad!) ZL1.

My point was that elwesso stated M3 is like an American car with european handling. But the M3 is nothing like an American muslce car. Reread the first post i quoted

If you're concerned about having a back seat, personally I'd take a CTS-V coupe over an M3, or even a CTS-V sedan.. More power and pretty equal otherwise (including MPG), except it doesn't have a roundel, which in itself means most people here won't approve. I believe the CTS-V comes with more things standard than the M3, but I haven't looked at it much..
IMO the CTS-V is basically M5 competition at M3 prices.

Get what meets your current and forseeable future needs so you can keep the car for a few years and enjoy it. You cannot go wrong with either car - they are very different, but bot have the BMW ///M DNA.
Good luck! |

Someone has to ask. WHY, with all that said, did you trade/sell the M3??

I might put my Z4MC for sale at the end of the summer to pick up an E90 M3. I will need more space with a kid
Or maybe I will buy another car for daily driving and keep the Z4MC as a wekend/track car. |

I sold it to free up some funds for an investment, and leased a GTI. Six months later, the investment never happened and the GTI isn't cutting it

Hindsight thread throwback!
I did get the E92, just barely ordered in time, at D&R and Steve Baker sales manager, took really good care of me with every incentive under the sun.... And it is a keeper
