so...three weeks outside warranty, one of my corona lamps went. Can anyone confirm the part #15 is the correct part that lights the inner ring? The part appears to be attached via 2 screws. Do I need to undo the screws to change the bulb or is there a way to 'twist' the bulb only loose? I'm impatiently waiting for my technical service DVD, hopefully after that no more simple questions!

BTW, just bough $1 led lamps from ebay and they fit without modifying the socket in any way - just remove the old lamp and insert a new one.

Not sure how to remove the "lamp" warning on the dash. The LED lamp was a "canbus" one

Do you have pictures of the OEM lamp and the LED lamp that you're replacing it with?

I also tried to replace mine with higher wattage bulbs (20 watts vs. 10 watts OEM) as in this thread:

http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=417609

and the socket started to melt after a few days.

How were you able to fit the LED bulbs from ebay w/o modifying the socket? You need to modify the socket to:
1. remove the stock bulbs
2. insert the new bulbs

Well, thats the point, the lamp can be removed/inserted without modifying the socket. I spent some time trying to destroy the socket with random tools - because this thread told me that it has to be modified, and then my much more handy friend just took the lamp out - he didn't read this thread obviously . Not sure which way to wiggle, try CW/CCW and back/forth.

But, as I said, not sure if "electric problem" lamp will reset (I bought canbus bulbs, but they are too weak, only 5 LEDS). So now I ordered similar lamps with 25 LEDS.

Suprtran above said the 20W bulbs started melting the socket within days so I guess we have no good options unless someone modifies an assembly to allow LED's without setting the sensor off.

How about a simple resistor?

I don't know. I guess it could work, but nobody has posted a success story yet.

Ideally, run a low wattage to not melt the housing and throw a resistor to trick the computer

I messed around with my angle lights close to 2 years ago... I ended up just replacing the bulbs for blue LEDs. I'm actually pulling down the front bumper again next weekend to replace that stupid Z4 horn and I'm thinking of replacing the angel eyes again - probably red, bright orange or plain super white.... not sure yet. The LEDs bulds are like $3.oo each

However, if you replace the bulds for LEDs you will get a light on the dash. I was able to turn that off with my laptop and P.A Soft.

Take a look at this link... good luck.

Do you have to remove the front bumper to access the headlight? I removed the intake and i don't see how to remove the back of the headlight and replace the bulb?

Disregard...figured it out.

For those that were as unsure as I was...for the driver side headlight, remove the wheel, and remove the panel in the fender liner.....from there, you pull the metal wire down, and then slide the cover off the headlight by pulling it towards you and lifting it out. Then, just turn the bulb bracket counter clockwise.....remove bulb/bracket, install new one, turn clockwise to lock it in and reinstall everything back to the way it was.

This topic is so confusing, I still don't get why no one has been able to adapt the WeissLicht lights. Is it because of the split V doesn't fit in the socket? if so it looks like it has a screw, maybe one side could be losened up, then put back into place inside the housing.

What is confusing is why BMW doesn't provide replacement bulbs and requires the purchase of the bracket as well....the bulb is like any other bmw bulb and socket...push down, twist and it pops right out.

I had a Lightbulb Error show up on the dash today. Seems like it is one of the angle eyes (passenger side). Is there a DIY out there to show an OEM replacement of the bulb? I've never worked on my car and would like to get into doing small stuff like this.

Or, is there any proven (long lasting) method of upgrading the angle eyes?

Thanks.
