Oil Change prices

Just wondering what you guys pay the dealer for oil changes on the S54 after the "free service" is up. 6 months ago it was $130 and today it was $199. The only reason I'm having it done at the dealer is so I have it on record for resale so I don't really care but I was just curious. Seems a little steep even for BMW.

Both of the dealers near me charge $115.

Not a bad price IMHO. The oil change kit alone is $112 from Tischer. So doing it yourself would have saved $87 plus local sales tax.

And they are using TWS? That price would scare me. I think the oil alone at cost would be around $11 liter.

What's the difference between TWS and regular Castrol? Ended up being $180, that's definitely worth saving me the hour or so to wash my car myself when it's only mid-50s outside. Oil was $15.75 a quart.

A quart of full synthetic, the real good stuff, is $8 a quart. They have to recycle the oil, then you have a filter. That sounds about right. You can do it yourself easily, but you have to pay if you want someone else to do the dirty work.

Dealer near me (Peter Pan BMW) charges $150 for the "M Car Oil Change Special". I used them recently because I had them look at something else at the same time...with the loaner car they gave me (328i coupe) I just left the car in the morning and picked up at night after work. Not bad compared to the cost of the parts.

I have an oil change kit coming from ECS tuning. I paid $88 plus shipping. Should be changing my oil in a week or two.

While we are on the subject of service records, would you feel that receipts for parts is the same thing as a dealer record of work done?

^ I kept the receipt from when I changed my oil, and wrote the mileage on it myself. More for me, but I'm sure the right people would appreciate it if trying to sell the car. I mean, I'm not just gonna go around faking POs from Tischer and then not put the oil in the car!

The only reason I went to the dealer was for resale records. Some people are pickier than others, and its only once or twice a year so I say why not? I just didn't remember it being this expensive but I guess it's really not that bad.

Have done it myself everytime. The oil change kit runs about $100 shipped from Tischer. Simple job, takes less than 30 minutes to do. Running 7500 mile intervals between changes.

Last year my change was $90 and last week I paid $120. Time for me to just man up and get some race ramps I guess...

You and I should just work out a deal where you buy a case of oil and a filter, you drive up to Vinton and you use my lift-- then maybe leave me with the 5 qts of oil from the case you didn't use....

I'm thinking ill probably never do another dealer oil change.. I do my own and I'm only doing the dealer one to get receipts.

I might as well start PRINTING my own receipt right ? hahahaha
who really checks these ?

Those are pretty decent prices. However i don't trust them enough even on a simple job like this so i will continue to do it myself. As far as the receipt (or proof of), i just write the mileage/date on the receipt and take a picture of the receipt with the dash behind it (a bit OCD:-). By the way, i stick with the 5K interval
