Good luck. You should be conscious of final cost throughout the manufacturing process, as well as quality. As I'm sure you will do, you'll want to take note of a few things that arose from the DKF exhaust build process.

I need to get mine mapped and built out, So much simpler and cheaper and great noise less drone setup. After I get my new rims and can drive it I will take some pics.

Here are a few sound vids of a good sound with low drone.

First will be a favored RPI setup, I do not have drone clips of the RPI but they say it is baaaad. They get on it at :40.

Another RPI pull from inside shop. On it at :12

Now mine, I think it has a better overall note and I have a highway cruising clip for it and drone. They get on it at :20

Mine from inside shop. On it at :09

This is almost 2min of crusing and you can hear me passing other cars and lots of road noise but hardly any exhaust. I get on it at 1:40

The RPI car has euro headers and cats (294HP that day), mine has stock headers and custom headers back with one muffler no other resonator or anything (285HP that day).

^as Dave said, there is almost no drone at all with his setup. Nothing but a great sound. Full disclosure, i prefer my setup because of the little bit of rasp i get, but, during the winter or summer where you HAVE to have windows up i find myself fighting the urge to shoot myself because of the drone lol. Windows down is heavenly but windows up the drone is very intense. I think Dave has probably the least droning but also one of the most aggressive sounding setups out there. Very bearable to drive with the windows up and still has that great sound.

What would seriously sell would be an alternative to going with the Euro s pipe or the modification of the stock US pipe. Maybe something with higher flowing cats too. I was going to do that project but i just couldnt get the time or the connections to get what i wanted done.

Wow deja vu...I'm totally with you on this one Beedub. Even if the group buy doesn't happen anytime soon I'll just drive up to see Dio and buy a set from him since he's only like 4 hours away.

For the sake of just chiming in to give another perspective, here goes.

Another solution to consider for section 1 is having high flow cats in the forward part of the section with resonators in the rearward part of the section. Jack from Custom Performance created such two such pipes for the E46 M3:

http://www.custom-performance.net/pr...idproduct=1146

I completely agree that an more economical exhaust solution is needed - I mean, it's an exhaust, costs are getting pretty absurd. Having had an E46 M3 and now the Z4M, and having spent way too much time on the forums for both I truly believe that to really tune the S54 exhaust note you have to be able to involve resonators. To make it loud and really racy it's easy - eliminate resonation and muffling. Most people don't want that for a street car because of the downsides of rasp and drone. Those two things are easily controlled with resonators. So, maybe give this setup a little consideration?

That's funny. I just emailed Custom Performance yesterday about making a Section 1 almost exactly as you describe, although for me it was to mate with my SS V1 stepped headers. I received a response the same day from Jack letting me know he would look into it. I haven't installed my headers because I refuse to pay $3000 for a catted section 1 from Supersprint, and I don't want to introduce the rasp/noise/smell associated with running completely catless. I have Diablos right now and the sound is almost perfect... I would prefer a little more spitting/popping/burble when letting off the throttle, but I don't want the overkill of straight pipes on a street car.

I live about 90 miles from Jack, I'd be willing to be a guinea pig car if he needs one - I'll try to contact him too. My bet is that if he put one together with options of being catted, resonated or both he'd have enough sales from just this forum to offset the cost. I mean, he's already got all the basic parts needed, the only R&D needed is custom fitting it to a Z4M. Can't imagine that with a full stock R&D car that it would cost too much to work out a nice fit.
