Well, personally I think it's easy enough that anyone can do it. But if you really dont feel comfortable I'm sure they can do it without any directions, at least they better be able to. Any car audio shops can probably do it as well. Just find the best price. They'll probably charge you a bit to do it which again is why I think most people should just do it themselves. Its easily a < 1 hr job.

tom_48, It's much easier then you're thinking. I am mechanically/electronically inept for the most part and I did it without issue. I wouldn't want to pay someone for what's really going to take no more the 30 minutes.

Have a buddy help you out, or find another board member in your area (ask on E90post as well). I'm sure someone won't mind giving you a hand.

I had mine done at a local automotive shop here and he charged me $25.00 took him about half an hour. I had him wire it into the mirror lighting and it works great

Easy install following this thread's comments

I followed the instructions in this thread and got my V1 wired into the mirror harness in about half an hour.

Purple and White Cable for the win !

FYI the harness feeding my mirror [ 2006 premiere package] was split into a larger one [ presumably the standard wiring] and a smaller one [ presumably the premiere pkg cabling]. The Purple and White wire was in the smaller package.

I used the factory-supplied V1 power adapter and stuck into the far right side of the mirror housing. I grounded the adapter to one of the screws in the silver bracket bolted to the frame. Piece of cake, really. I HIGHLY recommend soldering your connectors when possible - the crimp connectors can work loose with time and vibration. I soldered the ground [spade] connector to the ground line of the adapter in advance. Since the power clamp connector can't easily be soldered, I used a touch of 5 minute epoxy on the wires before i clamped them. But I'm engineer, that's me.....

Also, the map light assembly just pops out from it's clip connectors. No screws used. I worked it loose with my fingernails from the windshield side - no tool marks.

There's a gap in the rear of the housing near the top of the mirror mount, that's the easiest place to fish the cable through.

Thanks to everyone who posted on this thread - shoulders of giants and all that.

Here's some pics of the harnesses and wiring.

Smile

I just hard-wired my passport 8500 today using all the useful advice from this thread. As has been stated it was a piece of cake and looks professional.

Thanks to all that post for your help!

I wired in my detector tonight. My 03 3.0 didn't have the green/blue or the purple/white wires. It does have the whole package there auto mirror/rain sensor/homelink an alarm. I ended up connecting to a green/white and it works off the 2nd key postion.

Oh I changed the map light bulb to some 1 watt LEDs now there is some serious reading light.

Valentine V1 install on '07 3.0si coupe +premium +sport

The install works exactly the same for 3.0si coupe. Tap into the purple with white stripe wire. Powers on key position 2.

Flawless install, thanks to all that have contriubuted.

Just did the hardwire and it was a breeze with this nice DIY!!!

I also tried to hardwire my GPS by cutting apart one of the connectors and tapping into the purple and white wire > 5 amp fuse > GPS connector red wire on one end and GPS connector black wire > ground on the other end.

It didn't work, but I think that is because when I was disassembling it I noticed my quick tap was too big and didn't actually make it through the coating of the purple and white cord... does this sound like it would work to you guys? I don't know why it wouldn't personally.

It's weird...my purple w/ white stripe wire doesn't work. And neither of my TWO green w/ white stripe wires work either.

Very frustrated right now
This is supposed to be a piece of cake fdlakfjkdlafl;ad

Will take a voltmeter to each of those three wires tomorrow and see if something's possibly wrong with my wiring (which shouldn't be the case, as it looked completely untouched when I got to it).

What position do you have the key in? Green with White stripe is only powered when the key is at on/run (not acc).

Well I tried everything...
key @ position 1: checked all three wires, nothing.
key @ position 2: checked all three wires, nothing.
car on: checked all three wires, nothing.

I even went as far as to stick the positive "spade" blade directly into the exposed copper from the "hot" wires for each check, still nothing..not even a spark =/
And I know my ground is fine, since I tried both of the screws up in there.

As long as there's metal contact, it should at least spark or temporarily come on, but I had the V1 turned on the whole time, and as I was doing the checks, it never even lit up not even for a split second blip. The V1 itself was working just fine earlier this morning too using the regular cigarette lighter cable

Oh, and I do have premium package. So I'm not sure why it's not working. Hmmmm. Will hafta try voltmeter like I had planned.

Take a voltmeter to the wires and see if you get something. If you do, I'd check the fuse on the V1 power cord unless you're not running one. Its possible you blew the fuse. If you're not getting power from any of the three wires using a voltmeter. You'll have to find another one or route power from the fusebox.

Yeah, according to the other Z4M owners with premium package that have posted already, any of those three wires I tried should work. Only way is to test the voltage to know for sure.

So is tapping the wire in the dome light area. And, you don't have to run wire all over the car to get to the fusebox.

lol nobody's arguing which is better. this point has been beaten to death over and over. its all preference. i didn't want to have to cut anything nor have to worry which version z4 has which color wires since others reported differences. and running between headliner & windshield is hardly "all over the car".

If the purple wire w/ white stripe is supposed to be for the universal garage door opener, which fuse is it in the fuse box? I want to check to see if I somehow blew the fuse to that purple/white wire. Will have to wait until later today for my buddy to bring his voltmeter over to my house so we can verify that there's voltage going through it, but currently, even with all connections checked, I'm still not getting power to the V1

Purple wire with white stripes is 100% Z4M premium package compatible. I think that's the third guarantee thus far

haha well if the Ebay ones weren't labeled backwards, then the $10+ saved would be worth it
But for the record, I thought that the Ebay ones I was getting was the same ones that V1 offers in their full kits =/
