Few issues

Hi,

Two issues that have just arose on my '07 Z4 3.0si:

1. The auto up/down on the driver's power window is not functioning
2. The parking brake only goes up a few clicks but does not fully hold the car in place

Any ideas what to do for both issues?

Thanks

Garage List
1)Relearn the window anti-trap setting.
2)Someone that didn't know to properly adjust the parking brake may have messed up the adjustments

Thanks so much.

1. The relearn method worked! Window works perfectly.

2. For the handbrake, it doesn't even want to go beyond a few clicks, and when I pull it up further, there are no clicks at all, and just settles back to the previous position.

Handbrake sounds like corroded cable. Frozen in the sheath.

Could it be that something is wrong with the mechanical part of the handbrake lever itself (maybe the handbrake ratchet is worn)?

If this is the problem and I don't change the handle assembly (as they are quite expensive), would there be a way to adjust the cable to compensate for the limited travel of the lever?

It's common for the teeth to strip out on these. I always press the button in when setting the parking brake to reduce the wear on the teeth. The brake should hold at ~5 clicks, if it gets to 10 some adjustment is required. Adjustment is made at the rear drum, then the cables, following a specific adjustment procedure.

I would not try to compensate by adjusting it tighter due to a bad ratcheting system since you could end up with brake drag and overheat them while driving.

Check out the teeth on the ratchet, if worn out, you may be able to use a chisel with the proper shape to redefine the worn teeth shape
