What is the consensus on resetting the service countdown

Just wondering, what is the consensus on resetting the service countdown in the cluster when doing more frequent oil changes, for example? In particular, my cluster indicates ~9k miles until oil change is needed. I'm going to do one now. Do I reset the countdown, or leave it alone? If I reset it, will my next oil change or inspection 1/2 arrive faster than it should?

Do the oil changes according to your own schedule. Reset the Service Indicator when it hits zero to keep track of when your Inspections are due.

That's what I thought based on prior searching. Thank you!
