Nismo 370Z: Faster than M coupe?
Hey guys, theres this douche that lives in my town who drives a riced out Nismo 370Z, and every time we pull up next to each other at a light he wants to race. Now, just to settle my curiosity, do you think a stock Z4 M Coupe could take the 370? Do any of you have any experiences running against 370's?

I just saw Motorweek on TV last week and they tested the Nismo. It was about 5.3 seconds to 60, which is significantly slower than the M coupe/roadster. I think the weight combined with the "JHP" specs make the biggest difference. Seems to me like Nissan inflates all of their HP claims as you take one of theirs and a BMW with similar weight and HP ratings and the BMW will always be faster.

Drove one two days before I decided to buy a 3.0i Z4. It was the only manual 370Z they had out of 5!
If that does not tell you enough, nothing will. Steve |

Your stock M will be faster unless you grind into second

If his is stock, you should be able to take him.
No telling what he has done to the car if it is, "riced out." Could have some serious mods under the hood. Race him. If he beats you, play to the guys ego and ask him whats under the hood.

hahah Zcar fanboys are fun, aren't they? I'm usually not quick to call someone a douche, but the combination of a Blowout haircut, and sunglasses at night is really self explanatory.. Anyway, thanks for the input guys, though it seems to be a mixed bag of responses. Hopefully i'll get a chance to have a run with the Red Baron (one too many wings) in the future to satisfy my questions.

Have you showed him the HP:Weight on both cars? He is 287-306hp(depending on year/model) with about 400 extra pounds. Don't need to understand much about physics to understand his car will be slower.

Not necessarily correct. The OP never said what year the Nismo was but if it is a 370z Nismo and not a 350z, the engine has 350 hp. The standard 370z has 333 HP. Still has the weight you mention but the HP is quite a bit higher.

Well, to the first order, I guess all you need is hp:weight ratio. But technically transmission (gear ratios), differential (open vs limited slip and final ratio), tires (grip) etc have their roles too. Also, after certain speed aerodynamics will be important too.

The 370 has 332Hp & the Nismo 370 has 350Hp. It's curb weight is 3,300 lbs, so it's not 400 lbs heavier than your car. I have autox against a guy in a regular 370 and in the right hands, that thing is very quick around a course. With the added Hp and super sticky stock tires, I don't think you would win (both drivers being equal). http://www.nissanusa.com/zcoupe/specifications.html

I think it is perfectly fine to ask. Better than street racing most of the time.

Should be about a driver's race. The two cars have a similar amount of HP, and similar weight.
I believe the gearing in the M is a bit more aggressive, but should be damn near even, I'd think.
