Mobility canister: In case you actually use it

So I bought a replacement canister even though I carry a plug kit. I decided there are situations where using the canister would be preferable (such as gloom of night, pouring rain...).

I decided to test my compressor with the old can before tossing it in the trash and discovered the following:

1. Man O' man, does the sealant smell awful. Like a mixture of ammonia and skunk spray
2. The sealant only dispenses when the canister is hoses down. Unfortunately, the canister is less likely to stay upright this way and human nature might assume it was engineered to work when it sits on it's flat "base". Not the case.

Just thought I'd pass this nugget of knowledge along.

Sounds like a lot of work. I'll take my chances with Roadside Assistance.

Yup, that sealant would mess up the suede on a Tod's driver in a nanosecond.

Sorry to resurrect this thread but it was the most relevant thread that I could find!

When I bought my Z4MR last week the M Mobility Kit was missing along with the tool pouch. I bought the car in the East Bay San Fran area and I told the dealer that I couldn't drive home to San Diego without the kit. He gave me the just the canister but I didn't know any better at the time.

After I read the manual in the hotel room half way home that night I found out that I should've also received the compressor so I e-mailed him and he had it sent out. It arrived today and it's apparently a newer kit and uses a much softer container that's squeezed into the tire first using a screw-on top and tube that fits into the tire valve and then the compressor is used to inflate the tire. Fortunately, everything still fits in the two spaces on top of the battery cover. The P/N on the box for the whole kit is 71100413439 and the P/N on the sealant is 71100415041. The number on the Terra-B compressor is 2011/070878728. It comes with a nice zippered nylon case, which I'll use for something else, and a pair of stretchy nylon gloves.

Has anyone used this kit? Or do people just not bother with this?

One other question about the tool pouch. The one he gave me had a tow hook and a reversible screwdriver. It turned out that the tow hook was way too large and the one from my wife's E92 fit, so I bought one at the dealer. I found a diagram somewhere that showed a small double-sided open-end wrench so I got that. There's one more small slot, is there anything I'm missing?

Spare fuses. One of each wattage, along with a fuse-puller tool. Those Krauts think of everything.

You're correct that the newer kit uses the soft bottle. If I were you, I would just go ahead and spend the $35 on a new soft bottle, unless you think you can talk the dealer out of one. He'll probably send you an expired one.

What I got before I left the dealer was the old-style hard plastic bottle with an expiration date of 11/2013. What they sent me was a complete new Mobility kit with the new compressor, new soft plastic bottle, fitments, and nylon gloves. I was pleasantly surprised and I'm glad that East Bay BMW followed through on their agreement.

The other day I found the old-style kit on eBay for $55 so I bought that to have the old-style compressor, just because that's what the car came with originally.
