I just installed Rogue RSM when I converted back to lower spring stock shocks. It is a good time to change it out since the rear trunk area is apart.

I like camber plate GB too. Might as well go all in :-)

With RSMs You will need to know the shaft size of the Ohlins.
My Clubsports have a larger shaft than OE & I have a different size RSM

Rogue RSM can accommodate 10/12mm. I need to get new nuts. I have to check the RT kit shaft diameter. It should be the same for Z4M.

hope its ok I stick my nose in this thread. I for one am definitely interested for sure.

some general questions; what makes ohlins so good?

how is this kit going to compare to the moton and/or motion control kit that are in the $6,000 range

thanks.

For one thing they use linear springs and monotube shocks. Another big advantage is we're going to get full testing so its a real engineered solution. Every other coilover was built without extensive engineering (including the race suspensions you mention, those you need to ask for the specs you want).

The only kit that I'm aware of that was developed properly for our car was KW, but they use progressive springs and twin tube shocks (clubsports use linear in front but still progressive rears).

The kit would compare to an MCS single adjustable non-remote kit. You can't really compare it to the higher end kits, as those are for motorsports. So they're supposed to be rebuilt pretty often and are not meant or warrantied for street use.

The R&T kit also has the DFV Valve, which allows it to absorb high speed damping for optimal performance. Read up on that link.

From that same site:

Quote:
The choice of materials used is one of the key factors behind Öhlins success. Each component is surface treated to ensure reduced friction and superior performance. The piston shaft and damper walls are micro-finished and plateau honed for optimum lubricity and low friction coefficient. This attention to detail is the same across the entire range of Öhlins products. Without this fine surface finishing, excessive friction can reduce the compliancy of the damper causing a loss of function.

Damping rate on the R&T units is fully adjustable and ties compression and rebound together as a matched setting, meaning that in 99% of cases, the units will work superbly, straight ‘out of the box’ with only the smallest adjustments required to suit the car or drivers individual preferences. Despite what other suspension manufacturers may tell you, comfort is king, even when you are trying to set-up a competition machine. Our vast experience on events like the World Rally Championship and Isle of Man TT races has shown us that the fastest drivers and riders are those that aren’t being shaken to bits as they go flat out. The ‘science of compliance’ is a hugely important part of our design work.

And last but not least, is durability. But hey, we’re Swedish, so chances are you have already guessed that we’re used to building components that survive one of the toughest environments in the World. The carbon steels bodies are salt spray tested and can service 240 hours of abuse, whilst still retaining function. Don’t let those stunning race car looks fool you. These are real-world units for daily driven cars.
These shocks are so good the perfectionists at Singer used them.

I'm sure there are more reasons and hopefully others will chime in.

Is there any info on how they would mount the rear springs?
There are a few different ways, adjusters etc. & this is often an issue with keeping preload on linear springs.

Kits like GC hang loose when the suspension is at full extension.

I'm guessing it's adjusters like the 1 series.

I can add it to my list of things to ask. So far I'm going to ask about RSM and camber plate specs (spring/shaft/etc.).

Any other questions you guys have let me know.

That's PERFECT!

It's the same as the JICs I had.
They have an adjustment on the damper tube that lets you adjust the preload on the rear spring.
With this design, they will definitely not hang loose like GCs.

These are going to be amazing

Cool, let me know if it falls through. You can always do FI later, this is a one time deal

Another thing to add to the list; rear damper cable extenders.

I have ohlins on my bike and love them. I don't track my car and have H&R springs on it now. Just wondering would it be a good idea to get this set up, advantages for street use??

There's lots of info on the 1 &3 series forums.
Essentially they're a very sophisticated setup, best of both worlds.
Better daily ride & better tack too.

This needs to be confirmed.
Looking at the 3 series, it looks like this may not be the case

As Intgr8r mentions, these will ride better on the street. They also have better high speed damping (dfv). All while performing when you're driving aggressively, H&R uses progressive springs, these are linear. The materials are also much more high tech: durable and treated, salt spray tested and all that. Read the second half of this post for more info and links.

I'm upgrading from KWs if that tells you anything. According to some H&R are harsh (although there are exceptions). Harsh is always a very relative term on these forums. For some KW clubsports are harsh, but some track junkies find them too soft

Don't they have the same adjusters? other picture.

I'll definitely add it to my list of questions: RSM, camber specs and how rear springs are adjusted.

Keep it up guys! Spend some time looking at E9X reviews on these coilovers, pretty much universally people love how they ride, the excellent performance and the fit and finish of these is absolutely top notch.
