2007 M Roadster on 19’’ Forgestar black with 285’s on the rear.

Hi all I am new to the boards and there seems to bit very good information and enthusiasm shares here among M enthusiasts.

I have noticed that pictures make the board interesting, so here are a couple for good show and tell.

.

I am having some issues with these rims and tires that I am trying to resolve and or answer…can these rims and tires be made to work with no rubbing or BS and if so will somebody please tell me what I should/need to do.
It rubs only in sport mode under acceleration, when I hit bumps in the road, I live on top of a long hill and like to romp it up the hill and cant..also I have not really gone out there and tested the rim/ tire set up another way..Cruising/putting around does not seem to rub other than the one off bump in the road.
The rub seems to be coming from the fender lip..
As meaty as this looks is..and as much as I am hoping to keep it..I am not willing sacrifice function over looks.
I had 2 2002 m5’s..what car ? Only problem was they are more freeway cars than what I wanted..I like tight back roads, hills and throwing the ass out..Do you guys think I will be able to do that still with the current tire/rims set up post a tweaking of camber, shocks, lip roll etc all?

Also where do you buy M badge stuff..my rear badge on the trunk is all faded and looks ugly, do I need to buy the whole badge chrome et,or can I just get the 3 color stickers somewhere.
Also my BMW center caps from my stock rims don’t fit these..Where can I buy them?

Further I am looking at doing the ESS SC on my car but it has 45k on it..I have read many things about engine longevity re a SC, it’s very rare / never do I red line my car..Call me a weenie but it feels abusive to me..To be honest if ever I have even taken it over 6500 has been by mistake.
My question is..if I SC-ed my car considering I don’t redline really ever and drive it maybe on the weekends..is the SC safe?
My daily driver don’t laugh is a 1989 Toyota 22re..single cab.
If anybody has some facts to share PLEASE ,PLEASE let me know !!!!!
G
I’m in La Jolla California.

If it's rubbing the fender, then there's only a few obvious things that can be done:
1. Go to narrower tire (perhaps 275)
2. Increase negative camber
3. Roll your fender

If you almost never rev your car over 6500RPM, I don't think you'd get much out of a supercharger. Or an M engine.... it sounds like you want a fast car, but don't want to drive it fast

Your first try should be rolling the rear fenders. If it intimidates you, pay someone to do it

I'll second what he said.

Guys,

Thanks for the info ,and thanks for making me feel like a weenie re the rev's.
Something about the M cars that feel weird about high revs..I have had a VTEC and Rotary in the past heck even the S model Corolla.

I buried the tach on these little beaters.

Prior to the M Roadster I had two M5's my first was a 2000 that to me was hard as nails...I then went to a 2003 and found it softer?

I was never comfortable redlining the M5's..they felt more like top end freeway cars..Down shift from 6th to 4th was great, but the rest a little boring.

They do drift out and come back like butter at around or so 50 mph !

I appreciate your guys enthusiasm and toughness for the z4M and will make note to be more manly with mine.

As for the tire fiasco...does anybody know what will work 100% with the 285"s?..

Thanks all

its all about the proper offset, and mildly rolling the fenders. Its no magic trick

Regarding the S/C, have you considered emissions? If you've got that covered I'd be interested to know how because I'd love to do the same. I'm in La Jolla too, btw.

You never posted your wheel widths and offsets, so it's hard to find a solution to your problem

Wanted to thank you guys for the support.

I went MIA for a few weeks there because I was waiting to her back.
She came back with the ESS supercharger/flash chip/painted calipers / and a few black-ing out details ( defeminizing)
I capped off those ugly eye ball blinkers and the orange lenses..You can see in the pic’s.
itdnwiwbp: I don’t know about the emissions deal I guess I will see come time renew the registration and if a smog is required..if it’s a issue I will most likely do coil over etc and use her as a track car..My daily driver is a 1988 Toyota 22re regular cab pickup..
Guys here me on this!
HG Motorsports did the work and install..what a cool bunch of guys..they were just champions..gave me updates sent pictures etc.. I can’t say enough good things about them..if you are in LA or SD and thinking about having something done they are the guys to do it IMO. Chris and Blake from HG Motorsports and Roman from ESS are all great guys!

The 285’s on those Forged 19’s worked with just a lip roll and shaving just a little inside ..I can’t hear any more road noise than I remember before, so it must have been minimum, no camber, and no coil over needed.
If any of you are thinking about the ESS SC what I can tell you is ….it just feels right. ..Smooth daily driving no problem.. Plenty of additional power and feels like something the engine always wanted/needed.
As for my redline issues:: I have about 20 more miles to go to break the SC in.. we will have to see.
I took it up hill on Mt Soledad this evening( itdnwiwbp you know the hill) in 3rd at about 2,500 RPM and got on it up to 4k RPM..its pulling like my 2002 M5 used to in 4th at around 6k ..What lies above 4k RPM who knows..but this far I am very impressed with the extra power and pull ..
Also the winding sound the SC makes becomes like music to the ears..Its audible, yet not annoying and in a way relaxing also..I have done about 30 miles just putting around and with the SC have developed a new appreciation for the car.

Again want to thank you guys for suggestions re the 285’s ..

New pic’s uploaded because the visual component to this board makes it just that much nicer IMO.
PS: Mt Acadia Blvd in Bay Park (Tecolote Golf course) is a canyon road Down and UP ..and has a great corner smack at the bottom.

I believe I have discovered the origin, purpose and who designed the Z4-M’s
One of the designers at M works put in charge of the Z-M’s must have been a skateboarder.

Envision with me for a moment..
A ZM drifting a tight corner..
Both front wheels up on the sidewalk (countersteer)
Back wheels in the street smoking
The driver sitting literally on the rear axle with a long (almost chopper/drag car) like steering shaft and just enough frame twist to make it possible.
Anybody with a good hand at art want to go into business selling T shirts of this drawing with me?
That or we could manufacture rails similar to those on the skateboard in the picture (black) but for the underneath of Z4-M’s and sell them on.

I am being silly obviously..I do however have a close friend that is damn good machinist who manages from a consumers position what is missing or needed in this world and makes it..Then sell it in volume.
Rims are too complicated ..
Anybody have any ideas? Want to see something that is not out there already and have a real need or interest to purchase this elusive product.

Don’t castrate me for being ignorant here..I guess should not have had that damn Starbucks at 9pm but..I f SC’s and Turbo’s blow/force air into the engine what about clearing out the air in the exhaust and or creating some suction?
Yes I am thinking little chrome sleeved turbines or fans!
It would obviously require the outbound exhaust to get them spinning, and they would have to be well oiled and not impede the outbound flow but..would this not bump the HP even a little.
If they were recessed say ¼ inch from the exhaust lip would it not look cool..little chrome fans spinning at the stop light

its that damn star bucks coffee at 9pm.. stay away from it.had me up to 12:30 on the geek net last night.
A company called aero-turbine exhaust systems actually tried something similar to my crazy exhaust suction idea I found on line
Check it out:

I did the stage one SC and will post pic's of the install in a few.

at this thread.

Not to throw too much commentary, but Starbucks plus half a bottle of Jack, or like 10 Stacbuck's Vente with triple shots of espresso.

No magic suction fans or turbines are going to "suck" more exhaust out of the car. Forget about it.

If you want to improve flow, run Euro headers (no cats in the headers). The ESS kit is supposed to be run that way anyway, but Roffle and Beedub are the experts on that.

With the right ESS tune, I supposed you could run totally catless, but the car needs to be tuned for that, otherwise, well, the word "boom" comes to mind (too lean a mixture).

Might as well run full catless anyway, since you're no longer emissions compliant in CA, and will either need a "special" inspection or need to make the car offroad only, or put it back to stock prior to having it an inspection. (Car will not pass visual inspection, heck, even an intake that isn't stock and doesn't have a CARB--California Air Resource Board--sticker, or even a air filter w/o the carbon, will result in a fail.)
